Leyland

Id prefer VMart 2nd, he'd be perfect there. High OBP, low strikeouts, not a lot of HR power anymore. A perfect table setter for Miggy and Prince.

Couldn't score from 1st on a double, couldn't score from 2nd on a single BEFORE he tore his ACL......and with our current 5 hole problems = horrible idea to put him 2nd.

speed isnt necessary at the top of the lineup, its just a bonus if its there. my lineup with vmart back would be:

ajax, vmart, avila (another high OBP guy), Cabby, Prince, Dirks, Peralta, Infante, RF-of-the-day

OBP at the top, power and OBP in the middle, power/contact with ok OBP at the bottom.

You call Leyland stupid and then roll that lineup out???

Please go away.

There has to be a low baseball IQ board that you could join.....given your knowledge.

I don't know about that.....Avila would be the worst #3 hitter in MLB. I know it is a big IF but IF Dirks continues to hit I'd like to see AJ, Dirks, Miggy, Fielder, V-Mart, Avila, Peralta, Infante

DING DING DING DING.....we have a winner.

+1

With Berry 9th. Better defender and a good 9th hitter.

Coming from the guy who doesn't think that a .060 advantage in OPS is significant.

Take your personal shit somewhere else Sally. You got smacked around and are acting like a 3rd grade girl.

Stop following me around.....it's fuckin pathetic.

The 3 hole isnt that important because of the amount of ABs the hitter there will get with none on, 2 out. the 3 hole is the least important spot of any of the top 5. Avila would be a good 3-hole hitter given his ability to work the count and take walks, also given that he is not a good a hitter as any of the other 4 in the top 5. with ajax, vmart, and avila getting on base a ton in front of them, miggy, prince, and whoever hits 6th (likely dirks or peralta) would have a ton of RBI opportunities.

i put dirks lower in the lineup because he has good contact skills and decent power, but doesnt walk much resulting in a fairly low obp compared to his avg. hitting him higher will result in less people on base overall. plus, im not sold on him being consistently good yet. he's definitely better than the other scrubs we have for the OF, but i think that if we manage to get a corner OF or 2 in the offseason, he'll be a good 4th outfielder. not one i'd start every day.

In any lineup, Cabrera has to hit third. That's the fulcrum of the lever.

The fallacy of batting a shitty player 3rd because he'll come up with none on and 2-outs is BS. We scored a lot of runs in the 1st inning this season. Because of AJ and Cabby.

Nobody said to put a shitty hitter there, just not the best.

Is this gonna turn into another 3 vs 4 hitter?

I don't understand why there's such a divide when the data is already there.

You can argue maybe not the best though I argue Miggy should be there. But if not him, at least the 2nd or 3rd best, not the 6th or 7th best.
I would argue that Avila is the 5th best hitter on the team as it stands (counting vmart). Ahead of him you have Miggy, Prince, Ajax/Vmart. Peralta and Infante Id rank slightly behind him because they dont get base as much, and obviously theres no way that Berry, Young, or Boesch are better than him. About Dirks, like I said before, Id like to see if he can sustain his success for a larger sample size given that he was much worse than this last year in a slightly larger sample size. This all becomes moot though if DD manages to get a corner OF or 2 in the offseason.

Smacked around?

You couldn't refute what I said, so you ignored it and tried to attack me instead.

And I'm not following you anywhere, just reading the thread. Hell, this is the same thread where you ignorantly said that a .06 OPS difference is merely splitting hairs.

But your reason was, none on and 2 out -- basically saying Miggy will start the next inning, not so bad. But Miggy is great at starting two out rallies in that situation.

This is a little out there but I wouldn't mind going AJ, Miggy, Prince, Vmart - top 4.

Rather have Miggy lead off an inning than start a 2 out rally.
