Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) vowed that, if elected president, he would use the military to force Congress to reverse cuts to federal defense spending,*Voxreported.

?I would literally use the military to keep them in if I had to,? Graham said at an event in New Hamphsire over the weekend. ?We?re not leaving town until we restore these defense cuts. We are not leaving town until we restore the intel cuts.?

The remark was first posted onlineby journalist Ben Noyes.*Noyes wrote that, when reached for comment, a spokesperson from Graham?s office said via email, ?Due to the large volume of mail I receive, I regret that I am only able to respond personally to inquiries from South Carolinians.?

Vox*noted that, while Senate leadership is legally authorized to employ Capitol police to assure a quorum, Graham?s apparent idea stretches far beyond that.

?What Lindsey Graham is proposing is to physically force members of Congress to vote how he commands,? Amanda Taub wrote. ?His plan violates constitutional separation of powers in just about the most extreme way imaginable, by forcing the executive branch?s will on the legislature. And it is a pretty safe bet that Senate rules do not grant the president authority to have the 101st Airborne Division occupy the Capitol until Congress votes the way he wants.?

Graham made the remarks at the first ?Politics and Pie? forum hosted by the Concord City Republican Committee. He also chose not to attend this year?s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and subsequntly gained*just .1 percent of the vote*in the conference?s annual straw poll.

And that party calls obama "emperor". Ironic.

Republicans.Graham, McConnell, and the Tan man make it easy to never vote for a republican candidate ever again...

don't draw comparisons to Caesar's legions crossing the Rubicon to take on the Senate, wholesale looting of the treasury, or any of the umpteen civil wars between different legions that eventually tanked the Roman Empire...

was reading this the other day. I guess a thread where a senator threatens to impose a military dictatorship is a good place to put it.

A helpful reminder that unless you're actually in the military, the president is not your "commander-in-chief" so stop referring to him that way.

also interesting to note that once President, Eisenhower never saluted troops... he understood that it was a military gesture only, and as President he was a civilian, an important reminder that the military served the civil authority of the United States, not vice versa.

Saluting the troops was begun by Ronald Reagan... go figure, right? His military service was with the First Motion Picture Unit, so I guess he felt he had something to prove.

1) Lindsey Graham has long been considered among the more moderate Republicans in the Senate.

2) Pigs will fly before Lindsey Graham would be elected president

3) This was just a rah rah rhetoric for his own constituents in South Carolina, for whom the defense industry is very important - nobody believes that Lindsey Graham would launch Seal Team 6 on onto the floors of the U.S. HOR and Senate and force Congresspeople to vote at bayonet point.

4) Nobody except people like the people at rawstory.com cares.

i know what youre saying, but rhetoric matters. there are a lot of goddamn stupid people out there.

Yep. It doesn't take much nowadays to start a movement. The right person says something and all of a sudden every fucking republican voter you know is talking the same shit.

You mean like how every conservative on DSF has jumped on this thread to agree with/defend what Lindsay Graham? Oh wait...

give it time, shithead. thread was posted less than 24 hours ago.

Took you less than 12 hours to post two typically stupid comments to it and you'd made a fool of yourself 3 times before it was 15 hours old...shithead.

Right, because Conservatives/Republitards that post here are representative of all Conservatives/Republitards.

so, anyway, I make a joke about it with the "give it time..." thing, and you take it literally...

32 hours and 21 minutes, still no conservatives defending/agreeing. Shithead...

Who said this was going to become a thing? I never said that.

Besides, there are only like 3 or 4 conservatives who regularly post on here.

If you read the quote to your response about how rhetoric matters...

If that was the case and it's also the case that, as you say, rhetoric matters then it's entirely appropriate to point out that not only not every, but not even a single conservative on this site has supported or even defended the statement. I'm not taking it literally - i don't even take anything you say seriously. I just like laughing at you when you go off on your silly little rants that no one gives a shit about. Shithead.
