Lions sign Jake Scott and Michael Spurlock

Chris Houston, Stephen Tulloch, Rob Sims, Glover Quin, Reggie Bush, Jason Jones, Nate Burleson, Joique Bell, Tony Scheffler. I don't care where they came from. Every single one of those guys will help the Lions big time this year. And some of those guys were acquired using draft picks.

If you don't like most of those players, you are on crack.

Correct, mayhew ran the ship so ass backwards that all the contracts expired on the same year and we had to replace several starters this year. So several of his picks like fox, reiff, broyles, delmas will be able to prove or disprove the "wait and see" argument ive been hearing for years. Ansah slay id hope would get plenty of time on the field and make an immediate impact. Your 17 number is high though...u missed guys like Houston and palmer.

Several starters? Like who?

Cherilus? People have wanted him out for awhile now. He wanted big money? Nahhh...he got it elsewhere. Now he might get Luck killed in Indy. Buhbye.

KVB? Time to move on. Loved his services but just got younger at the DE position. See ya!

Thats all i can think of. The rest of those FAs were re-signed, signed elsewhere or released. Again, you bash just to bash because you have nothing. This shit is getting old. Fn priceless....lol

Did i miss anyone?

ur boy avril. Durant. levy. delmas. Houston. if I remember correctly he needed to sign or draft 8 starters on defense alone going into the offseason. Mayhew did a very good job this off season plugging holes. But its put up or shut up time for a lot of the names the pro mayhew people have been talking about for years with little or no production. As the previous poster mentioned a lot of mayhews draft classes will be getting significant playing time this year.....they will either produce or we will suck.

Levy, Delmas and Houston are all on the roster still. They were not replaced.

Houston was obtain via draft pick...as was Sims

They were free agents we chose to resign. Their contracts expired. At the end of the season it was a hole.

Yeah....so what? You act like we had a complete turnover. We didn't. We replaced a couple of players and Msyhew did a nice job of filling some holes. Gotta give him some credit, no?

Avril was offered a long term deal. He didn't take it. But we did much better with both Ansah and Jones IMO, especially given the cap numbers.
Durant, they prepared pretty well with Palmer and 2 draft picks the year before they lost him.

Peterman was cut by choice, same with KVB.
Hilliard/Fox have been developing nicely too for Gosder.
Reiff great planning with Backus age.
Houston, Delmas, Levy they got back
Plus they upgraded DE and got better depth (Idonije) and finally got a second good safety and explosive RB (again)

This team is the 2011 team only better. Especially if you like Quin over Spievey, Slay/Bartell over Wright and Bentley over Berry.

Biggest question I have is can Hilliard/Fox be any good. We have no proof of them "developing nicely," but we'll find out soon enough.
Also, how many games can Delmas play? If his new practice plan allows him to play 16 games healthy, it was a great deal to resign him. If he's injured half the season or playing hurt, then I think it was a bad deal. I love him as a player, but only if he's healthy.
I think we really improved in the offseason, but that doesn't immediately transfer to wins. We'll see what happens.

Hilliard has played in 6 games and done a decent job. Lions are 6-0 in those games. Hilliard can handle it. Fox has talent just needs to stay healthy. They know they system which indicates good planning then some journeyman 8th/9th year vet on his last legs.

Delmas has a low cap number this year and next year's number depends on how much he plays. But even so if he stays healthy they should extend him, if he gets hurt, they'll cut him. Better safety depth this year from Carey's play at the end of last year and Chris Hope and Spievey as the 5th safety not hte 2nd safety.

The Lions have the talent to win 10-11. But I agree they must execute like any team.

Healthy or not how can you say developing nicely if he doesn't play?

Fox has better technique and is bigger and stronger and knows the system. That's development

Until he plays a game..

How do you know he has better technique?

Regardless, I'm counting on as much production as last year or the year before. Until he can prove he can stay healthy he's just a body for the defense to beat up and nothing more.

Coaches quotes.

We've survived with worse at RT. Gosder isn't exactly the model of consistency. Tackle play wasn't exactly good in 2011 and we still tossed 41 TDs. Plus if Fox starts sucking they turn to Hilliard.

1 guy who plays and sucks compared to a guy who doesn't play? I'm not sure how you can say we've had worse at RT.

Granted, we've had some bad ones, really bad ones but the other guy, in 3 years, can't even make the lineup. Because of his health etc..

Just because he couldn't due to health doesn't mean he doesn't have the talent to have a solid year. Plus players play can vary over time and progress, regress or fluctuate from game to game, season to season. Fox has enough talent to play RT for the Lions. Players can be bench players but later on be decent starters.

Its hard enough playing each week but missing 3 years will take a shit long time to get back into playing shape. Assuming he stays healthy.

At best he'll be rusty as hell.

This is the reason for training camp and preseason.... Also I think Gos and Peterman combined to form one of the crappiest run blocking right side of Olines i have ever seen and being a lions fan I have seen some bad ones. Gos was injured often as is Fox obviously. But I think Fox and Hilliard can both could play equal to or better then Gos. So next year if there is a guy available in the draft late first or second round who can be a good RT you grab him. You cant have the best players in the league at every position. To argue that because Mayhew grabbed depth players at tackle in the draft isnt to say they arent good enough to start it means that they had an established guy and if he couldnt go or if these guys beat him out then you have them. Now he is gone and they step in... thats how a franchise works.
