From his Aug. 31 column on ESPN:
Another battle between in-state schools comes up from Ann Arbor as Brady Hoke and his Michigan Wolverines take on Western Michigan. Hoke is not 100% confident his team is ready for the opener and you shouldn?t be either if you?re a Wolverine backer.

Remember three years ago when the Maize and Blue switched offensive styles under Rich Rodriguez? The team lost its first game to Utah and then piled up just 16 points against Miami-Ohio - a club that finished 2-10 that season.

Western Michigan has the talent to stay with Michigan, both offensively and defensively so look for a tight one as the Broncos are poised to keep this one close with an outside shot at the upset.

Go with Western Michigan plus the points.
Yes, despite the fact that he writes shit like this, and despite the fact that the unemployment rate remains high, Cowherd will still have a job next week, and (probably) makes more money than anyone who posts on this board.

While I do agree that Cowherd puts his foot in his mouth a lot, he was spot on with the Michigan prediction. You take away the two defensive TD's plus their missed field goal, and it's a nail biter. Our offense did struggle to put up points against a lesser team. He also went 4-0 on his other 4 picks yesterday.

Not trying to hate on UofM, because I think hiring Hoke was a great long term move, but I do think the offense will be a work in progress this year. What did excite me is that although our defense still looks young and vulnerable, at least they are putting pressure on the QB and making big plays when it counts. That is something we never had with Rich Rod.

The most telling stat yesterday was Michigan's two defensive TD's in one game under Hoke. In 3 years under Rodriguez they had 4 total.

Yep. Can't stand Colin Cowherd, but yesterday was much much closer than the scoreboard says.

Yeah, well the clown at the sports book would be keeping turd's money nevertheless ....probably some clown with a neck tattoo

okay, so ignoring the fact that they couldn't protect their QB when we brought pressure, they did not stay close to us during the game, and it was pretty clear we had all the momentum in the world when it was called with 1:00+ remaining in the 3rd... Cowherd was right that they had enough talent to hang with us. good point.

+3 in turnover margin is a sweet thing to see. Plus two of them went for TD's... you have to love that... Yes the game was closer then i would have liked until the turnovers but you have to give some credit to Michigan's coaches for making adjustments and designing blitzes that actually work. This is a work in progress but lets hope we can continue to get turnovers. I think Colin is pretty funny most of the time.. His show is better then some of the shows out there..

Good thing the turnovers were there cause they couldn't stop the wmu qb when he had even a little bit of time. Michigan did a nice job getting to him after the early drives.

And if you take away Barry White's cock and his balls, he's a soprano...

I'm not sure about it being closer than the score indicates. Seems like they were set to put 3-4 more touchdowns on the board at the rate they were going. On both sides of the ball, Western really seemed to be shell shocked.

It was a close game till the pick 6. Western never really recovered after that.

really? Here's your RichRod hater club card.

With the holes Michigan was opening in the line on the last drive I think they would have scored at least two more TDs, with DR getting some big runs to go over 100 yds rushing. The score may have been even more lopsided if Hoke took the leash off and let em run free in the 4th. And the WMU O was on its heals. I don't think they would have scored again. Not a TD anyway. Oh well, never know now. On to ND.

Nice. Should it take a primary position in my wallet - right alongside the credit and debit cards and driver's license? Moderate importance - costco card and gym membership card? Or tucked in the back with the random discount cards and receipts that I will never need?

I agree with the idea that the game was closer than the score. WMU had too easy a time marching down the field.

Michigan gained 50% more yards per play than WMU.

But I agree with the majority here...fuck those defensive touchdowns....they should probably put this down in the record books as a 20-10 win.

you put it loosely in your wallet so whenever you take it out, the card flies out and lands on the floor. Then you make a big show about having to pick it up so everyone sees and knows you're a member.

well, they were just lucky breaks... they weren't like caused by the defense or anything. Mattison didn't even call the blitzes that forced bad throws, or that fumble; a couple of our defenders just got confused by who they were supposed to cover and decided to charge at the guy with the ball, who just happened to be the QB.

True. And if they didn't happen it was guaranteed that WMU's piddly dink and dunk offense was going to score touchdown after touchdown.
