I agree with what you're saying..

Back in the old days with shows like Barney Miller, Mash, All in the Family - you could watch an episode without worrying about previous shows and wondering if you missed something. I guess I've always liked it that way.. Even some newer shows like Law & Order - no continuation. Burn Notice was a little bit at times but that show was so awesome I didn't get bothered by it.

Right.

That?s what I?m talkin? about.

Burn Notice was cable network, not broadcast network.

Real good show.

I think Jeffrey Donovan is one of a couple actors who has played both JFK and RFK.

I think maybe Martin Sheen might be the other.

haven't seen Burn Notice or the shows/movies where he played the Kennedy scumbags, but I recognized him as the guy from BN for the small, but awesome part he had in the movie Sicario.

I prefer a good series that I can binge-watch. IMO, most movies are too short to really get into the characters and develop a good storyline. A good series is pretty addictive.

If you haven't watched these I would give them all a try.

Sopranos
Breaking Bad
Narcos
Peaky Blinders
Sons of Anarchy
The Office
Gotham
Making a Murderer

I've seen all of these except Sons of Anarchy. Gotham I watched 1 episode w/ my brother - it was well into the series so I couldn't get into it because I didn't know the characters or story (other than what little I knew from the comic books and reruns of the Adam West series, which wasn't really helpful).

I think I'll pick up Mad Men again (dropped it a few months back in season 3) to see if that can recapture my attention and if not, or next then go on to one of Sons of Anarchy or Dexter.

There's a lot of us Better Call Saul nerds on this board - there are actually a few threads already on the board.

If you don't have full basic cable I guess you can't see the current season that just started, but if you haven't seen the passed seasons you can catch up on Netflix.

The main character played by Bob Odenkirk was a character in Breaking Bad.

How much does full basic cable cost these days, anyway?

Love it - saw season 1 before cutting the cord and have watched 2 & 3 on Netflix.

Full basic Fios is $80 for their triple play but by the time you include the boxes and add a DVR, taxes and other bs charges, it's $165 for one TV and about $200 if we put it on both TVs. Certainly doesn't break the bank, but after my wife complained enough times, I started tracking how much of it we actually used/needed I agreed that it was a waste of money. I pay less than $90/month for internet and phone (VOiP) outside of football and basketball season and last year, about $110/month with a streaming service for the 2 sports I care about (college football and hoops). It looks like the streaming service will be double this year so I'm looking at about $130 all in. Unfortunately, I can't get Fios just for half the year - 2 year minimum commitment.

That's one situation, if a series on Prime/Netflix - but only on TV and lets say late first season sometimes hard to get into. One of my favorite sitcoms Frasier, that and Monk - neither did I watch until like season 4 when I could watch some reruns.

Yep, it's all BS - don't get me started on the equipment charges and hidden fees with Directv. 2.5 years now cutting the cord. I've used many services but at the moment, YouTube TV for $40 and Prime which I've had for years and years.. Even before they had movies and TV.

Best part, no 2 year commitment fee. I don't like something I can go elsewhere..

He played JFK in that movie where Woody Harrelson starred as LBJ.

His role as RFK it was smaller it was in that movie where the guy from titanic starred as the FBI director J Edgar Hoover.

What?s his name Leo cardio DiCaprio I think.

same for breaking bad, Game of Thrones, Bloodlines...

I watched the first season thinking it would be pretty good considering the cast, but by the season 1 finale, I hated almost every character on the show, even the Sissy Spacek character. It felt like I had nobody to root for in the series going forwards.

I agree, other than the good cop that used to date the sheriff's sister, there was nobody to pull for but their lives are all so f'd up in ways that continued to surprise. It was like a train wreck - horrifying, but you can't not watch it particularly when it was so well produced, written and acted. Plus I've been a Linda Cardellini fan since Grandma's Boy (hilarious if you've never seen it). I did have trouble picking who I wanted to come out ahead because I knew there was no way justice would be served to all of them.

If you're into nonfiction, check out Murder Mountain on Netflix. It's an interesting docu-series on the cannabis industry in Humbolt County, CA. It goes back to the beginning and covers the hippie commune days, thru the still illegal medical growth boom to legal growing today. It also focuses on the violence, one murder in particular and murders/missing persons generally as well as the impact legalization has had on all these small growers. Interesting to see what legalization is doing to "the little guy."

Just finished watching the first 2 seasons of Ozark, really good, highly recommend it. They’re in production for the third season right now.

Anything you've seen lately worth checking out? We don't have cable - just Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I just finished Godless on Netflix - a western that is only one season. Good production, well written, interesting storyline - a bit gory for the wife but nothing out of the ordinary by today's standards. You'll recognize a lot of actors but only be able to name a few at most (unless you're Tinsel and you know half of them and their dogs personally). I don't see how they could have a 2nd season without a completely different story line though.

I also recommend Patriot on Amazon Prime - dark comedy, modern day spy series - 1 season so far, but a definite cliffhanger at the end so I'm hoping there's more to come.

I forgot to mention.

Operation Y and Shurik's adventures is comedy largely based on slapstick elements. You can get 80% of meaning from the first 2 parts without knowing the language or subtitles.
