Manafort jailed

A US citizen.

Just b/c most conservatives are so fond of attaching everything national, patriotic, and self-identifying to being American, doesn't mean that everyone else does or should.

I still recall many of the nationalities of my childhood friends and some of my grade/HS classmates, b/c I grew up in a very diverse and ethnic area in the city of Detroit, and those of mostly or entirely Swedish, Dutch, Swiss, Italian, Polish, German, Irish, Spanish, French..ect..descent were quite happy and proud to answer when asked.

bullshit. Nobody would answer that way...unless you are a total asshat.

I remember that too, and I'm not that old.

Hyper nationalistic patriotism really took off with the 9/11 attack and Endless War on Terror.

I guess it's still changing; my grandparents were the first generation on both sides to all be born here, and they still kept to their ethnic groups when deciding who to marry. my parents' neighborhoods in Detroit only one (1) generation later were thoroughly mixed.

all whites, including Catholics, became "white" during my grandparents' youth... prior divisions between "WASPS" and "Popists" ended for many meaningful distinctions.

after a certain point, referencing your ethnic & cultural background won't make sense because we'll all be too mixed. it makes sense to just refer to yourself as American, although all those of us with non-Anglicized surnames will still be able to track some of their ethnic heritage.

I see absolutely no reason to state that you are an "American" in the US, unless you aren't a US citizen. This given the ramped and ginned up anti furriner cray-cray throughout the Trumpian derplorable nation, I would be loathe to say so to total strangers, else risk them whipping out their phones to call on the Feds to report an "illegal".

I see what you're saying.

Yeah, I agree it's unfortunate being American has taken on such partisan tones. I still believe At some point, future generations will be so ethnically mixed it won't make sense to identify with any one ethnicity, unless you're within a generation or two of getting here.

Being "American" should be more a cultural thing than an ethnic or national thing; regardless of your heritage, you assimilate certain things we all have in common, all of which are SHITTY: strip malls, urban sprawl, pro-wrestling-like political discourse, acquiesence to massive income inequality, unhealthy food, NASCAR, lingering and still-pervasive structural racism, being on-the-clock at work 24/7, etc. etc. AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!

Obviously....but that is going to be somewhat stunted by the percentage of folks who wish to preserve their "Aryan" whitebread family bloodlines, even if they have to marry cousin Emily or stepsister Sarah to maintain it...lol.

Maybe by mid-century the mix will become more evident, unless the US becomes fully Fascist-Dominionist ruled before then.

I don't want to give them the term. We're the Americans and they're assholes. I'm not going to quit using the term because they're bastardizing it.

Had Roe v Wade been reversed, then the current US population might be closing in on a half-billion, instead of ~330M. So since the vast majority of pro-lifers are also anti-illegal and/or immigrant...especially Latino/Muslim and anti-refugee... i fail to understand the RW mantra that they are a threat. Obviously there aren't 150M trying to enter the US by hook or crook, and we can gradually and readily absorb those who are seeking asylum here.

Getting back to Manafort since I have been Camping for a week... Manafort has nothing to worry about Because Orange Julius will just pardon him sadly.

If he pardoned Manafort that would be pretty much admitting that Trump is guilty but I still don't think the GOP has enough people with a backbone to impeach him.

in an alternative timeline, Trump is only president of a failing Atlantic City casino, and this thread is titled "Manafort Honored"
