Mittens Wants His Buisness Record and Taxes Off Limits

"...and the fact that Kennedy suffered from Addison?s disease, a life-threatening illness, long before he was elected to the presidency..."

Good thing Kennedy didn't end up succumbing to Addison's while in office, huh? - the country sure dodged a bullet on that one...

The point: He was extremely ill while in office and the book illustrates how it actually affected his effectiveness as president. We know that Wilson was not even running the country, and that Roosevelt's malady should have disqualified him from running the fourth term, when he was just largely out out it.

I got the point.

Kennedy wouldn't have survived the scrutiny of today, and the 22nd amendment has disqualified any president who might be in Roosevelt's position going forward.

I'm surprised the synopsis for the book didn't include any of Eisenhower's maladies; he was incapacitated a relatively significant amount of time himself.

Dubya wasn't running the Country either....:lmao:

The difference was that everyone knew about them.

Ha, ha.

Most historians concur that Wilson's second wife, a direct descendent of Pocohantas, was making executive decisions after Wilson suffered a stroke in 1919.

She's often referred to as "the Secret President" and "the first woman president."

So Obama isn't even the first minority president, after all, it would seem...

OK.

Well, we made it through and it's the information age, and presidential succession is pretty well established.

My guess is at some point at either Columbia, or Harvard or both, Obama got a C on some test or paper.

And he probably still smokes.

At least I hope he does; not so sure I'd want someone going through nicotine withdrawls being the one walking around with launch codes in his pocket.

It sounds like a pretty book, Byco, actually; I'm curious though, does it address how would Yalta have been different with a different president than Roosevelt?

And who would that president have been?

And how long would that person have been president?

And would Yalta have even happened had someone other than Roosevelt have been president in the years before?

Same with Kennedy; what would have been different with a different president; and who would that president have been?

Nixon? Humphrey? Kefauver?

Did Kennedy really do much as president? What did he do? Let's see...he cut the top marginal tax rate from 90% to 70% (the father of modern trickle down economics); he botched the Bay of Pigs, he stood down the Soviets during the Cuban missile crisis, he pissed off Hoffa, Sinatra and Momo Giancana, he started the Peace Corp...

What else?

How would the world have been different if people had known about his Addison's?

Tax returns are in play....every Potus for years has released at least 5 - 10 years of back returns and if you are going to run on your record as a buisnessman then thats in play also.

exactly. Romney has made this a central point in his campaign; he's a "job creator" who shouldn't have to apologize for his "success." therefore, he SHOULD release the records here to show everyone exactly what his success is based on.

I think the real reason he won't release his returns is not because he made too much money, but because he paid far less in taxes than the average joe would at that same income level. his "success" had more to do with being born a Romney, going to Harvard Biz School, and not giving a shit about anything but using his already substantial wealth and political connections to make obscene amounts more.

for the avg. american, to see the byzantine construction of tax hazens, deductions, write-offs, and shelters the Mitt Romneys of the world can take advantage of thanks to their position vis-a-vis the rest of us would be to see behind the curtain; they would start to understand just how unequal our society is becoming, and they would start to ask uncomfortable questions.

I think that the Obama campaign has not pushed this issue as much as they should, because they realize if Mitt Romney is forced to reveal his tax records, it's going to make a lot of people on Wall Street uncomfortable... people who basically own both political parties as it is. they will leave the allegations out there to damage Romney a bit, but they won't go for the jugular on this one and nail him on it as they should.

A lot of this all "what if Napoleon had a Piper Cub?" speculation. I say that JFK would not have been elected at all had the public known of his legion of heath problems.

I thought it was "What if Sparticus Had Had a Piper Cub?" I thought it was "What if Napoleon Could Fly?"

Or was that Eleanor Roosevelt?
