Nancy Reagan dead at 94

Why would anybody be sad?

She lived a long and a great life.

She deserves celebration from we that remain.

Our times will come for all of us.

I only regret that she was never able to see the passing of Abe Vagota acknowledged by the Academy of motion pictures arts and sciences.

EDIT: Ronald Reagan, star of Bedtime for Bonzo, Hellcats of the Navy and The Knute Rockne Story was the first memorialized departed in the Oscars Ceremony following his departure.

We'll see where Nancy Davis Reagan comes in next year.

If she's mentioned at all, it will be better than the horseshit treatment that Abe Vagota got.

the academy responded to the Abe Vigoda situation with a horseshit "we regret we were unable to feature Abe Vigoda in the thingy, but he's on our website" type response.

Hey Tinsel, weren't there rumors Nancy Reagan slept with Frank Sinatra?

I don't know MC but after all these years of posting on such subjects, would you be more or less critical of a First Lady/White House that relied on the Bible, Koran or prayer ...or even something as vague as "meditation" when it came to major decisions?

hmm... let me think about that for a second.

astrology is definitely worse than the options you cite, so I'd be more critical of a First Lady/ Whitehouse that relied on it compared to the others.

I think "meditation" despite its vagaries, is perhaps the least harmful option you cite to rely on for guidance.

the others are all tied for "not as awful as astrology" except for the Koran which I cannot comment on beause I have not read it, or had it crammed into my head during 12 years of Catholic school, like the Bible. maybe it's not as absurd and self-contradictory, or maybe it's more so.

There are rumors they had a long affair.

Who knows?

There are rumors about Sinatra and pretty much every famous woman he ever knew.

She was once attached to Sinatra's buddy Peter Lawford, who became Sinatra's link to Jack Kennedy.

The HBO original film The Rat Pack - a truly great fuckin' movie, starring Ray Liotta as Sinatra, Joe Montegna as Dean Martin, Don Cheadle as Sammy Davis Jr., William Peterson as John F. Kennedy and my dear friend Barbie Niven as Marilyn Monroe - basically chronicled the bromance between Jack Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.

Sinatra was in awe of the power of the Kennedys, and the potential for himself to be influential with a man who could become and did become the president of the United States, and Jack Kennedy was in awe of Sinatra's ability to not only get with pretty much any woman he wanted to, but also connect any of his buddies with any woman they wanted.

A person can actually watch the full movie on youtube, if one wants to.

Republican Ronald Reagan, who had previously been a FDR supporting liberal Democrat, was elected Governor of California in 1966.

He made a famous televised speech endorsing Barry Goldwater in 1964.

Sinatra would go on to support his friend Ronald Reagan for president in 1980, but with nothing like the zeal he did with Kennedy in 1960.

I don't know where Reagan would have been in his transition from liberal Democrat to conservative Republican at the time of Sinatra's and Kennedy's friendship going into the 1960 election.

yeah, well, it's not like she designed the horrible drug policies or forced her husband to see astrologists ("should we bomb Libya again? The stars say yes!"), but I don't see why she gets a pass. she went along with the herd and actively lent her voice to one of the most unjust criminal policies ever (think I'm exaggerrating? consider how the US has the largest per capita criminal population in the world, maybe even the largest outright, due to the drug war.)

so while it's not like i woke up every day thinking about nancy reagan and hoping she died, i still say good riddance.

i wasn't glad his house burned down, I just laughed.

Totally agree, we shouldn't put drug dealers in prison because drug dealers are inherently nonviolent people - like, remember how dangerous Miami was before the drug dealers came in in the 70s and 80s, gave everyone jobs, lifted the economy and eliminated crime. Or how about something a bit more current, like this guy...

although in his case, prison probably made him violent so it could be Nancy's fault those kids are dead because she told kids to "just say no."

Fair answer .. I sort of look at all as some form of mediation or retrospection.

I knew she was laying in State but thought the service would be earlier in the week while I'm here in LA.

Tinsel isn't too far from Simi

I'm not planning to attend. I'll watch it on television just like I did with President Reagan.
