NFL.com says Lions need to let Stafford go

Well, we have absolutely no power running game, maybe we could be more effective giving it to Abdullah on draw plays from the spread.

Whatever we are doing isn't working, we have the 29th ranked offense and I know the talent we have at the skill positions is at least top 10 in the NFL.

We already have the second highest pass play %. We let Matt throw it enough.

Until he proves he can call out his own protection I would be hesitant to give him more responsibility. Guy audibles into a Joique Bell run play on 2 point conversion even though he didn't think it had much chance for success.

2012, he let it rip. Not good, 7 wins. 2013, he let it rip. Slightly better but still not good, 4 wins.

I think people forget he failed in the "let it rip" offense already.

Eventually when he retired people will realize Matt was just not good.

I fully agree. He moves the ball in the hurry up. The results are there.

Hate him if you want, but every game... they tie his hands and it's ugly. They let him go gunslinger and we score. Results do not lie.

Yes, he will throw picks. Yes he will make boneheaded decisions. Yes... he will score.

The previous 2 games before Seattle, trash time with prevent defense. San Diego too. Last season I saw him in two minute drills and hurry ups where he failed, the years before as well.

At first I thought NFL.com wanted the Lions to release him (let him go). I was onboard with that.

58 minutes of nothing. One minute of driving the distance of the field to score (almost).

I say let him gunsling. Lombardi shouldn't be allowed to tell him not to change plays until Lombardi's plays are worth not changing.

We let him go 2012, fail. 2013, fail. Or does anyone not remember those 11 wins in two years? Yet 2015, it's work?

Lol.

Guarantee you let him do it more, teams will catch on - he will do bad.

I think it makes a lot of sense to give Matt playcalling power. We are going to fail with Lombardi's plays regardless, so might as well see if Matt's calls are any better. I get that history suggests our team won't fair well in a true gunslinger mindset, but our offense has faired even worse being conservative (2014-present).

Again, the offense is already a train wreck. Could it really get worse with Matt calling the plays? Keep in mind that if nothing else, it lets the coaches see what Matt can handle. If he fails, it's just one more item on the list of skills that keeps him from being elite. But if he succeeds, maybe we've found something to compensate for what he lacks in other areas.

Bring Ravioli back, and let Matt call the plays.

What's the point of an OC if Matt calls his own plays? Wasted space.

He doesn't score. He's super inconsistent. Even last year he went long long long stretches without scoring.

While Lombardi was calling plays...Defenses caught onto Lombardi's playcalling and formations he runs. Which is why the offense has even less success this year

Matt is not smart enough to consistently call his own plays. One time and he's suddenly good again..

Easy when the adrenaline is up at the end of one ball game in which he did nothing up to that point. And even a larger point, Detroit's defense can't handle an up tempo offense. They'd be on the field too much.

That wasn't Stafford's call - it was the Coaching staffs call. They gave him two plays (like they do on most downs).

Play 1 (Primary) - Random pass play (dont know exact call)
Play 2 (backup) - Bell run up the gut

Defense comes out in blatant Pass D formation (2 LB 5 DB) - Stafford then decides to audible to the (Shitty ass) Running option (AKA only other choice he has).

He knew it was a terrible play call, and he said as much when he said 'he thought it would fail' but that was the only thing he could do...besides pulling a Suh and calling his own play /ignoring the coaches, which isnt something a QB will typically do...(ever). Either that or he throws into double coverage...where he would get bitched at for 'not making the right read'/ 'being confused by the D'.

Stafford has done a lot of dumb shit on his own this year, (like staring down receivers/overthrowing open players), but that play was not on him...

39% pressure. Run game is not NFL caliber.

Stafford should get an extension.
