I would have thought you guys would be going nuts, especially turd when this news broke. I don't know the details but at an average of $12mm over 4 years, it's 2x the $1.5mm per year LSU had offered him. The article I read didn't indicate how it was being funded, but I imagine at least some of it is coming from Portnoy - didn't he offer $1mm per year for QB talent? What a shame, this game has been completely destroyed. It's been happening for 25yrs but suddenly it's unrecognizable and not for the better.

At this point, I'd support Michigan going independent and ratcheting down its admission requirements. Let the other hyena programs fight over the carcass that is college football and scrap for their so-called national championship. Clearly, that is not the trajectory of the program. So, what's to "go nuts" over, anyway? That CFB is but a money grab? That ain't news.

Other than being mildly disappointed with Michigan's offer, I ...

Champ finally got what he wanted - players getting paid and now his beloved corporations and billionaire donors are going to have more control over universities. Literally everything will be covered with a corporate logo, including uniforms at some point.

Anyone who thinks this isn't going to end up turning college sports into the same circus pro sports has become and price families out of stadiums in the process is only fooling themselves. It's also going to have a huge impact on parity, or what's left of it.

Just an incremental step toward turning me off completely from college sports. I may as well become an NFL fan - the level of play is obviously leaps and bounds better and there's some amount of parity. If they're both going to have free agency, corporate big money interests and universities becoming little more than major brands (this is already an issue but it will be even less about the universities themselves), why watch second rate football when literally the only difference is the quality of play?

It's been this way for a long time. Paying players - openly now, not like OSU & SEC teams, Clemson, Oregon & FSU haven't been doing this for decades in some cases - had nothing to do with it.

"There's too much money in college football"

You've finally caught up to this? 40 years late, but better late than never...

No where near 12 million, im sure itll be 15 by next week. Its probably south of 10 over 4 years. The real surprise, here, is that there is a $200 million warchest getting ready to be unleashed. The start of this season really ramped things up. The feeling of having a National Championship made people hungrier for more. What will happen is that Michigan will ruin it for everyone, because everyone hates them, and new regulations will be enforced to handicap Michigan and make the playing field even.

I’ve been saying it longer than you have and I’ve been doing it honestly. You’re not really against the money in college football, you’ve wanted to pay players for a long time and now that they’re getting paid you don’t care where it’s coming from or what it’s doing to the game - because you’re a billionaire bootlicker. Complete hypocrite.

LOL $10mm is “nowhere near $12mm”. Classic. But I’ll take the over on $10mm/yr. The lowest number I saw was $10.5mm.

Maybe the next funniest thing I’ve seen after this post was an article that said uofm had to fix a broken relationship due to harbaugh as if this wasn’t all about money. Yeah, $12mm will fix it better than duct tape.

I don’t know; we’ll have to see.

So far Blair “Jackie Robinson” Underwood has yet to take a single snap under center for his new coach Shemar “Hondo” Moore.

i’m not predicting any Academy Awards or Emmys, that’s for damn sure.

EDIT: okay.

Looks like they’ve both won Emmy awards back in the day.

Do I feel dumb or what?

Not to me, I think a $2 million difference is huge., but thats me. Taxes are gonna sting, regardless.

Anyway, maybe the Sparty billionaires will start coming through and you will be able to field something competitive and even things up. Im sure you wont have a problem with that. As far as my stand on this whole thing, I told everybody this was going to happen. Be careful what you wish for. At the same time, the teams that were already doing it, are shitting their pants, because things evened up. People are going to think that teams with more money are also going to win it all the time and that wont be true. There will be many disgruntled players getting paid that arent playing and they will jump ship to other schools . I think parity will last for a good while until there is some kind of contract between player and school.

Huge? the LSU offer was 1.5mm per - that’s $6mm for 4 years. If it’s $10mm, that’s a lot closer to $12mm than it is to $6mm. That $4mm bump is a huge difference. And nobody is reporting the deal is worth less than $10mm for 4 years.

As for MSU billionaires getting involved, that won’t make me any happier or any more interested. if this is the direction the game is going I won’t be following it very closely or for very long.
