well... if the government really wants to come after you, it can. your guns don't do squat. the government already has all your information. so let's at least exercise a little common sense and try to keep guns out of the wrong hands, eh?

not sure what ground any Conservative has to complain about the situation either. the few groups that actually sue the Feds over their collection and use of our data are frequently derided as communists, socialists, etc. etc.

That's already happened. Our constitutionally limited republic disappeared even before I was born.

It can operate without restraint. I think the examples are plentiful enough. It can alter the rules to justify its actions. History has no impact on you? A Supreme Court judge once said this: "they had for more than a century before been regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far unfit that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect."

If you think we are appreciably further along in regards to the way that government is "bound to respect" all of us now, you are not paying attention. We are the slaves that feed the governmental beast. And it's not going to get better anytime soon. Some are more willing to comply than others and some benefit from the efforts of others, but make no mistake in believing that our rights are no longer "inalienable" to this government. And this has been going on for 100 years.

Ruby Ridge ring a bell? Waco? The ATF raided a gun parts stores in SD last week though an injunction was in force. Some claim about illegal plastic receivers for rifles that are illegal because it lacks a serial number. It now has the names of 5,000 customers who bought them. You doubtless support this activity, but the ATF NOW considers receivers as firearms and not parts as it did previously. The point is that the government can and does whatever it wants whenever it wants with impunity. It itself has no "governor."

Like here. Will firearm background checks ever be "too thorough?"

Constitutionally limited republic has disappeared? What in the name of balls are you talking about? What can you not do that is not either illegal, harmful, or dangerous? You have more rights than just about every single country in the world.

Do you really think that you and your buddies having AK's and AR-15's is keeping the government in line? Are you insane? Places like Australia and Canada have strict gun laws and I've yet to see anyone claim that their governments are corrupt because of it. If all that is all that stands between us being free and our government chaining us to the walls of our own home...I'm going to move.

I'd hate to see what would happen if an actual military unit showed up at someone's house who thinks their guns will keep them safe. It'd be like....well, Waco, only a lot quicker. Guns do not keep you safe from the government.

Speaking of Waco and Ruby Ridge like you so wonderfully brought to my attention...Do you know why those incidents happened? I would think that would be a good indication why we don't want idiots and conspiracy theorists getting their hands on weapons of that caliber.

Check it out. You have repeat violations against the law. You're suspected of illegal activity. What do you do? "Kill 'em all!" No, you let the government or whoever is knocking on your door (with a warrant) inspect whatever they need to inspect. If you're not doing anything illegal, it's no worse for you. If you're doing something illegal, well then you have a problem. Opening fire on the government is probably not a good idea.

As for the SD gun shop incident this last week, i haven't read anything about it, yet. But again, if you're in business or own guns, do it legally and you have no problems. And if those 5,000 people purchased illegal guns, then yes...they need to be taken away and the store owner should refund their money. You can't sell illegal shit and then claim your rights are being trampled on.

To me this whole idea is much like the liberal idea of "cops are corrupt because they beat that black guy". No, that black guy got beat because he was doing something illegal, got caught, fought with the cops, fled from arrest, and resisted on the ground. Point is that you do illegal things, you'll get punished. That's a simple concept. I've yet to see someone give me any kind of reasonable explanation for having guns for protection against the government. Your arguments make no sense. Maybe if this was the 18th century an armed group of citizens could strike fear in the hearts of their government, but no more. The level of tech the government has is ridiculous compared to anything available for public use. It'd be a massacre if they ever decided to crack down on us.

Keep your damn guns. Just do me a favor and not be insane, have a criminal background, ties to criminal organizations, or have children who have behavioral or mental issues. Oh and have legal weapons in a safe place in your home.

not sure what ground any Conservative has to complain

People always complain. It's important that people be free to complain, but I wish the media would raise the bar on the level of complaining required to call it news. It's not exactly an echo chamber, but it just leads to and endless loop of people complaining about other people complaining and back and forth and on and on. I wonder what percentage of political reporting and discussing is on topics of what other people said instead of what other people did or are actually proposing that we do.

Dude, this is America. Your conservative buddies always talk about how this is America and blah blah blah. Insert whatever cliche you want. We have strict laws that would make it impossible for our government to take over and turn us into something not based on democratic systems.

Can you answer me this one question...why should we be scared of our government? Even if you lose your guns (which will NEVER happen) what do you think would happen?

I'm not ignorant enough to think our government is perfect, but I'm also not stupid enough to think that there is any possible way our democracy folds and you actually need a gun to fight them off. I'm actually more worried about some of these gun groups trying to start a revolution than I am about the gov't coming door to door to ask for our guns. You hear them threaten it all the time. When was the last time anyone in the government threatened to come into your home and do harm to you?

I think you misunderstood my point. In previous threads related to this topic, I mentioned that the mental part of the problem has potential to be fixed through use of a computer chip in the brain. I stated a long list of reasons why such technology will be utilized in the future. There were numerous posters against what I was saying from both the Lib and Con side.

Furthermore, I'm not basing my argument from a Conservative viewpoint. The problem is the mental instability of the person doing the killing. Fix that instability with a computer chip. That has far more promise than any attempt to take away the guns. You can couple that with "smart guns" that will only allow the gun to be fired by the person with the computer chip.

Problems exist beyond this fix though. First and foremost is the black market / illegal guns. This includes the guns printed by 3D Printers.

Still, if everyone has a chip in their brain that removes the desire to kill people, then the weapon becomes irrelevant. Problem is getting past their Big Brother fears. Notice I said THEIR fears, not mine. I don't have the fear of Big Brother, but there are many people - both Lib and Con - who do fear Big Brother.

So first overcome the Big Brother fear then implant the chips - problem solved, regardless of weapon. There are many positives for having the chip implanted beyond this, and those will be what sells the implants far more than the gun control aspect. So focus on that, gun control just becomes an added bonus and eventually people look back and wonder what life must have been like back when mass murderers walked the streets or people were imprisoned and other things the way kids look back and wonder how rotary phones worked, or manual typewriters,or reading by candlelight, etc.

I'm not against gun control, but I am against not thinking it through and believing that banning guns solves the problem, which is really a mental disorder far more than it is a problem of guns, knives, bombs, and all other weapons whether viewed individually or combined.

byco is not gonna let anybody put a chip in his brain.

As I recall that sentiment was shared by over 50% of the board.

Yet there will be compelling reasons to get a chip. Just like people once said they would never get a telephone, cell phone, computer, television, radio, etc., the benefits compelled most people to acquire those. There will be similar, likely even greater benefits to have the chip. Why go to public school to learn subjects that can be easily downloaded and you can ace the test without studying??? Then school can teach things like social interactions, teamwork, and other skills. Telecommuting is on the increase for jobs, how much more work could be done from home? How much more efficient will workers become? Want to see a futuristic question on your job application? "Do you have a chip in your brain?" Answer "No" and your application gets "filed".

Commit a crime, get a chip or go to prison. Go shopping, sorry we only allow payment by using a payment method associated with a chip to prevent criminal activity. Want to get a Drivers License? Be sure to have a chip which prevents accidents.

There will be far more incentives to have the chip than benefits to not having it. Being "off the grid" will be even more difficult than we can imagine, to the point where it will be virtually impossible, or at best extremely uncomfortable way to live.

Fight to not have the chip?!?!? That's fine. Sociatal pressures from education to work, socializing to entertainment, and more will far exceed current pressures, beyond what people today are willing to believe. Obviously the real trick will be maintaining freedoms, but we have managed to remain just as free today as we were decades ago despite the computerization of nearly everything. No one wants a Borg society, so steps will be made to ensure individuality, provided the actions of individuals are not criminal in nature.

Not to mention The Pope might strongly encourage the brain chip in order to reduce the sinning nature of people, not to mention an ability to commune with all of Catholics without the need of a television, telephone, or face-to-face meetings. I could see the Pope being very supportive of the brain chip.

Wow. I think my brain just sharted, puked, and sneezed all at the same time.

What is your idea of sin? Is it the bible's definition or according to man's laws? I could see this being abused...badly. makes me want to become one of those NRA nutjobs.

Like I said, the brain chip is the solution but it is criticized by Libs and Cons.

I remember businesses shunning Social Media. I remember the internet being considered just something for the government and colleges. I remember the personal computer being a novelty that was only in 1 out of 100,000 homes. My parents remember when they first had a TV and grandparents told stories of when they first had radio while their grandparents could not grasp the concept.

Scoff at my points all you want, it will happen. And won't you be happy when it fixes the abuse of guns??? Or is it better to still have kids being murdered?

The Pope will encourage the use of condoms before he encourages the use of brain chips.

EDIT: This Pope will almost surely be dead by the time the brain chip comes out, and so will I probably be; however I expect whomever is at the time of the rollout of the brain chip will be of the same mindset of the current Pope.

Those Popes, they don't change much from Pope to Pope.

My idea of sin is irrelevant. I was merely pointing out The Pope and HIS views on what are sins would be greatly reduced amongst his followers as the chip can install an app that follows the guidelines put forth by the Vatican.

Don't think The Pope would want to do that? Yeah,he probably won't want his sermons sent over radio, TV, internet, and especially not Social Media to help guide and influence his Flock either.

The brain chip eliminates the need for condoms when the Catholic App is installed, for it will keep you from desiring to have pre-marital sex. It is the ultimate victory for The Pope on that battle. All those stories about Catholic school girls being easy or the priests being pedophiles will be a thing of the past.

Why would he be against that???

Umm...because it's man playing God? And if the chip wipes out gun crime and violence, I guess u won't need your guns anymore.

Oh man, are we back on the brain chip thing again?

Tinfoil hat alert!!!!!!

What about zombies and aliens? (extra terrestrials, not what Texan's call everyone else)

Man, which brain chip will I want? Apple iCortex, Google Wave2, or the Vatican Catechip?

I'll probably just have a port installed and plug into a backpack full of Raspberry Pis...they'll be a pain, and they won't do as much as the other devices, but I'll feel more secure...and scaleable.

Just don't get the Microsoft ZuneMind chip. Everyone will laugh at you for not buying an Apple product.

Finally....you made a funny post about the chip.

How many years has it been?

Will there be a Colbert to Letterman App chip that will make me believe I'm still watching Dave?

It there is going to be one...schedule me for installation today!!!
