That's already happened. Our constitutionally limited republic disappeared even before I was born.
It can operate without restraint. I think the examples are plentiful enough. It can alter the rules to justify its actions. History has no impact on you? A Supreme Court judge once said this: "they had for more than a century before been regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far unfit that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect."
If you think we are appreciably further along in regards to the way that government is "bound to respect" all of us now, you are not paying attention. We are the slaves that feed the governmental beast. And it's not going to get better anytime soon. Some are more willing to comply than others and some benefit from the efforts of others, but make no mistake in believing that our rights are no longer "inalienable" to this government. And this has been going on for 100 years.
Ruby Ridge ring a bell? Waco? The ATF raided a gun parts stores in SD last week though an injunction was in force. Some claim about illegal plastic receivers for rifles that are illegal because it lacks a serial number. It now has the names of 5,000 customers who bought them. You doubtless support this activity, but the ATF NOW considers receivers as firearms and not parts as it did previously. The point is that the government can and does whatever it wants whenever it wants with impunity. It itself has no "governor."
Like here. Will firearm background checks ever be "too thorough?"
Constitutionally limited republic has disappeared? What in the name of balls are you talking about? What can you not do that is not either illegal, harmful, or dangerous? You have more rights than just about every single country in the world.
Do you really think that you and your buddies having AK's and AR-15's is keeping the government in line? Are you insane? Places like Australia and Canada have strict gun laws and I've yet to see anyone claim that their governments are corrupt because of it. If all that is all that stands between us being free and our government chaining us to the walls of our own home...I'm going to move.
I'd hate to see what would happen if an actual military unit showed up at someone's house who thinks their guns will keep them safe. It'd be like....well, Waco, only a lot quicker. Guns do not keep you safe from the government.
Speaking of Waco and Ruby Ridge like you so wonderfully brought to my attention...Do you know why those incidents happened? I would think that would be a good indication why we don't want idiots and conspiracy theorists getting their hands on weapons of that caliber.
Check it out. You have repeat violations against the law. You're suspected of illegal activity. What do you do? "Kill 'em all!" No, you let the government or whoever is knocking on your door (with a warrant) inspect whatever they need to inspect. If you're not doing anything illegal, it's no worse for you. If you're doing something illegal, well then you have a problem. Opening fire on the government is probably not a good idea.
As for the SD gun shop incident this last week, i haven't read anything about it, yet. But again, if you're in business or own guns, do it legally and you have no problems. And if those 5,000 people purchased illegal guns, then yes...they need to be taken away and the store owner should refund their money. You can't sell illegal shit and then claim your rights are being trampled on.
To me this whole idea is much like the liberal idea of "cops are corrupt because they beat that black guy". No, that black guy got beat because he was doing something illegal, got caught, fought with the cops, fled from arrest, and resisted on the ground. Point is that you do illegal things, you'll get punished. That's a simple concept. I've yet to see someone give me any kind of reasonable explanation for having guns for protection against the government. Your arguments make no sense. Maybe if this was the 18th century an armed group of citizens could strike fear in the hearts of their government, but no more. The level of tech the government has is ridiculous compared to anything available for public use. It'd be a massacre if they ever decided to crack down on us.
Keep your damn guns. Just do me a favor and not be insane, have a criminal background, ties to criminal organizations, or have children who have behavioral or mental issues. Oh and have legal weapons in a safe place in your home.
