I think Breitbart watched Borat and was inspired. You lead people 90% of the way there, and if they're too polite to correct you, you can make it look like they're the racist or sexist. If they actually are racist or sexist, trouble.

the difference between the two though is that in Borat's case they did not actively edited tape to make it appear people were racist or sexist if they otherwise weren't. Big difference between splicing tape to remove certain words to change the context, and what Borat did.

essentially Borat mislead people into feeling comfortable enough to air their own racist or sexist views. They only became embarrassing later on, when it turned out he wasn't from Kazahkstan, and the viewing audience wasn't the citizens of some obscure country they couldn't find on a map, but the people of the United States...

I was thinking of those guys, but there were others, both from his shows and the movie.

on one hand, it is a bit harsh to think those guys really ruined their lives, but hey, it's a learning experience for them.

on the other hand... hard to have much sympathy for them.

Well, it's a $400 K per year internship.

Sure, it's a pretty meager wage, but former presidents hit it big when they leave the White House.

And it's not all that thankless; ya get to live in a pretty famous mansion, ya get to fly around on your own famous private plane (albeit both are on loan), ya get to host a whole lot of bitchin' parties with some really cool guests, and if some third world dictator pisses you off, you generally have pretty free reign to bomb the shit out of him.

Also when you're not traveling you can walk to work.

I'm not sure I think Obama works 18 hour days, and lately he seems to me to be having more fun - notice he's actually started singing on the job - how many of us get to do that?
