Obama "Romney Olympic" Ad...Funny...but

he's only math/science smart.

he has poor language skills because his dad always told him to focus on "real subjects" like calculus, chemistry, physics, etc. and to ignore "underwater basket-weaving" type stuff, like philosophy, English, psychology, or history.

It sucks. I love the Twain autobiography I've been reading bit by bit here and there for a year, but I know I'm missing out on 2/3rds of it. Maybe that's why I like Lasting Lessons so much...well, I liked Arrested Development too, so that can't be the whole story.

It's not my parents' fault though. I was more balanced in highschool. I'm a southpaw.

... I'm a southpaw.

me too.

actually, I'm ambidextrous in a way... I favor different hands for different things.

I write and eat left-handed; I throw, bat, golf, right-handed. I favor my right foot when I kick something.

I've shot shotguns and pistols; I favor my left hand when I hold a pistol, and my right when I shoot skeet/trap/clays with the shotgun.

with some practice, I can use either hand for some things: I use my mouse with the left hand at work; right hand at home.

my friend's wife is a neuro-biologist and she said basically that I am a complete freak of nature.

My brother is like that. Mixed-handed but with preferences for individual tasks (writes right, left for most sports). My dad's almost like that. Southpaw for everything except for swinging a bat or golf club.

I wrote an article for a magazine on left-handedness a few years back.

interestingly enough, while it appears to have a strong genetic cause, it is not 100% genetic, since identical twins are not always of the same handedness. there was a high correlation though.

also: left-handed types are over-represented among artists, world leaders, athletes, and achievers in general.

Since you mention ambidexterity, do you know if age plays a role in it?

My nephew is left handed, he writes lefty, eats lefty, etc.

But when he was younger 5-7 he could hit and throw/catch a baseball left or right equally well, same as swing a golf club. But now he can't, he's 11 now and can only do those things left handed, he looks as bad trying to swing righty, as I do lefty, when he used to do it perfectly.

I wonder if at some point in the brains development it makes a decision that the brains of others who are ambidextrous do not?

I'm primarily left handed/left footed/left eyed; but I'm fairly ambidextrous too.

I hit from both sides of the plate in baseball but I'm a better hitter right handed; I swing a golf club right handed, and I've become more comfortable boxing out of the orthodox stance.

I shot a rifle and pistol as a scout left handed; curiously, I felt more comfortable holding a bow and arrow right handed, even though I had to line up the shot with my left eye; which was a little bit problematic but I got the hang of it soon enough.

it might. not sure. I am not completely up to date on the latest research into the causes and nature of handedness.

I shoot a gun left, write left, shoot a basketball left, basically everything else right: throw right, golf right, hit a baseball right

One might have thought you'de have been a bit more of a centrist, given that internal balance between left and right...

I write, eat, and box lefty. Bat, throw, and kick righty. I shoot with both left and right and if I'm playing a game with a racket or paddle I constantly switch throughout the game.

Also my handwriting looks better on a chalkboard if I use my right hand....

Wasn't this a thread about a funny political ad?

there are more lefties here than I would've expected. or maybe we all just congregate on the politics board.

It's the damn Liberal majority on this board that pulls all the lefties in.

>:D

Ironically, I'm left-handed in virtually all matters. Except throwing a frisbee.
