whether or not our tiger's season ends tonight is yet to be determined but i would like to look into the future of this club's offseason by creating a couple things that i wouldn't mind seeing the Tiger's brass doing.

Free Agent Signings
Aramis Ramirez or Jimmy Rollins 3 year/18mil third year being a club option
CC Sabathia 6 year/125mil

Trade suggestions
Austin Jackson and Andy Oliver for BJ Upton

so we dont get into another argument about the sabathia thing the last two years would be a mutual option in which he has to throw a certain amount of innings in year 4 to get those last 2 years. add jose reyes to that list as well because i think we go big on him for some reason. i think the hispanic influence in the clubhouse and the check your ego at the door with leyland will help him out a lot.

In all reality Rollins is probably in the neighborhood of 5 year 70-75 million deal. The same can be said for Ramirez he has already said to be looking for several years this off-season and with the Cubs and Marlins in play for him I would not be surprised if he got 5 years 80-85 million.

No way I want CC for 6 years at $20 mil a year
Ramirez or Rollins are fine but I think it will cost more per year and a longer deal.
I don't know why TB would want to trade BJ Upton for Jackson.

You can't just trade aj just because. His value is very low at the moment. And I'm not sure Oliver is worth much after this years performance.

Jackson better play in a winter league this season and be restricted to letting the first two strikes go before swinging. For $440,000 and no contract for next year, the Tigers should demand that as a condition of employment. He also need to go back to outfield school and learn to play balls hit in front of him.

At the present time, Adam Dunn looks like the only player in MLB with less upside at the plate than Jackson has, and that is even taking into consideration that the Tigers also still have Wilson Betemit, who has also dramatically slumped and became a black hole on offense.

Austin's obvious struggles @ the plate, as well as Betemit are both perfect examples of my wondering why Lloyd McClendon still has a job as the Tiger's hitting coach??

I have yet to see even ONE Tigers' player on their roster, since '06, whose season to season hitting had been noticeably, if not significantly improved under Lloyd's tutelage, BUT I have seen plenty who have regressed. Each and every one that began to or continually struggled during his watch eventually was traded, released, or not resigned.

So you want AJ to have 2 strikes before he swings? He might just strikeout 350 times.

Maybe if I express it in poetry form it might register better.

Or wrote in English.

But back ln point. A strikeout hitter and you want 2 strikes on him before he takes a swing. And this does what? Oh I get it you think he'll learn how to hit with two strikes. Maybe he should learn not to swing at pitches outside the strike zone.

Or shorten his swing so he can actually hit the ball in the strike zone.

Or "wrote" in English. Nice. I just copied and pasted the same sentence and now you comprehend?

Jackson's percentage of swinging at pitches outside the strike zone is third-lowest on the team. That ain't the problem. He has no concept of the anatomy of an at bat, because his idea of one is to hit the ball at the first opportunity. He needs to look at more pitches, in my opinion. Study them. Think like a pitcher. Learn his own hitting zones. I doubt he has the slightest idea what they are.

So, fine ... it's not every at bat that he lets two strikes go, but two random ones in any winter league game instead.

One thing for sure is we will need another big bat. Avila and Perralta had career years, but you can't expect them to be All-Stars next season. They're both very good big league hitter, but I expect them to come back to earth some next season. We need a lead off hitter.

Yeah I agree. If they do great but I'm not expecting as much. And BB - hope he continues to hit. And maybe, a huge maybe aj can start hitting. But then we have DY for the whole season so that helps. And Fister.

I'd like to see us grab an IF, and add to the BP. And get a starter, either for Penny or if he stays so Turner can get one more year in the minors.

Edit: And put AJ down to 9. Not sure we have a lead off hitter currently on the team.

What kind of contracts are you looking at Buddyboy :( Anyone with any knowledge of contracts over the last 10 years knows that you aren't getting Rollins or Ramirez for anywhere close to 3 yrs at 6M a year, you barely get a Brandon Inge for that. They will each get somewhere between 10 - 12M for at least 3 or 4 years. We have good young 3b that could be ready for 2014 so 2 years is the most we should go on a 3b.

I think Rollins gets less than 10 but Ramirez getting more than 12.

I'm not convinced that Young is a long-term solution at a corner OF spot. I'd go a year and an option with him for 2012.

I don't think another team will say "alright we just got our future leadoff hitter" after acquiring aj. Which means right now, he adds nothing.

How about we use Jackson and Porcello/Turner to try to pry McCutchen away from Pittsburgh?

I would trade Turner and Jackson for McCutchen if he is under team control for 3+ years.
