Offseason signings

How about we use Jackson and Porcello/Turner to try to pry McCutchen away from Pittsburgh?

I would trade Turner and Jackson for McCutchen if he is under team control for 3+ years.
So would I. The question would be if Pittsburgh would though.

At the present time, Adam Dunn looks like the only player in MLB with less upside at the plate than Jackson has, and that is even taking into consideration that the Tigers also still have Wilson Betemit, who has also dramatically slumped and became a black hole on offense.

Austin's obvious struggles @ the plate, as well as Betemit are both perfect examples of my wondering why Lloyd McClendon still has a job as the Tiger's hitting coach??

I have yet to see even ONE Tigers' player on their roster, since '06, whose season to season hitting had been noticeably, if not significantly improved under Lloyd's tutelage, BUT I have seen plenty who have regressed. Each and every one that began to or continually struggled during his watch eventually was traded, released, or not resigned.
What about Avila and Boesch? Peralta had a much better season than his last few w/Cleveland.

If the Indians do not give Orlando Cabrera a contract , I say the Tigers jump all over him.

Some of these trade scenarios are pretty wild. I mean maybe we should just go see if the Blue Jays will give us Bautista for jackson n Turner since they suck n need young guys to build towards the future. Then we can go out and trade Avila and Delmon back for Mauer since he had a better year and has his best years ahead of him. Maybe we can pick up Kershaw or Billingsley afterwards since the Dodgers are in a bad spot. World Series time bitches!

1. He got moved to the Giants at the deadline, didn't he?

2. He's 36, coming off a year where he had a .267 OBP!

3. Are you serious?

the rays were looking for just drew storen for bj upton. that's how low the price is. a reliever for a starting center fielder. the rays would take that trade because bj badly wants out of tampa and aj would improve their defense tremendously. also we need to sign delmon to a 3 year contract at the min he was just a mvp candidate a couple years ago and youve all seen what he has done this postseason

part of the reason Upton can be had is Jennings ability to take over for him. They don't need a CF. And we need a leadoff hitter.

Mitch[/color]]I don't think another team will say "alright we just got our future leadoff hitter" after acquiring aj. Which means right now, he adds nothing.

Plenty of teams would view him as an upgrade in CF. And many many teams are in small markets who can afford to wait to develop lower salary guys with potential while they ditch their "stars" who they do not want to pay.

While I agree with what you said it would have been much different last season. Right now aj just seems lost most of the time. I think he'd be more of a throw in at this point than a center piece.

Jackson may very well win a gold glove. I agree that he needs work and must improve on the offensive side of things, but he's not a "throw in" by any stretch. I'm against trading a guy when his value is at its lowest, though, so I hope they don't consider moving him at a reduced price.

just because he could win a gold glove doesnt make him anymore of a trade piece because anyone can find a track star put him in center. it isnt like he has bad pitch selection it's he doesnt come near the pitches when he swings at them

The guy hit .250 this year, not .150. He needs work, he's not perfect. He's also not hopeless or valueless. He's young, with room to improve.

Oh, and "just because he might win a gold glove doesn't make him more of a trade piece" is silly. Of course it does. When you are good at things, it raises your value.

im thinkin phillips a really good .300 avg .350 obp 80 rbis and fills a spot that we need at 2b
Phiilips would be nice. Good call.

He would but considering he isn't a free agent this offseason when Cincy holds an option year and are expected to exercise it.

I think that what the Tigers need to do is start going after these cast aways. The can't miss players that need a change of scenery. We don't seem to go after those guys. Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Quinten, Colby Rasmus. We load up our bench with Santiago, Rayburn and Jason Werth's. Zero upside

Jhonny Peralta comes to mind. They got him from Cleveland for nothing and he was on the all star team. And lately, Delmon Young qualifies.

He would be great indeed.. 4 year deal and he's outstanding on defense.. He would be more of a 2 hole hitter than leadoff however because he actually has some pop.. Although I certainly would have him leadoff over Jackson.. Only negative is the fact that he's over 30...
