Oil Pipelines

How is it not stealing?

We had no right to it, and the legitimacy of our initial invasion has since been disproved.

As far as parsing his words to say "kept" and not "stolen/steal" is just smoke screen. He's actually insinuating he may send American soldiers there once again, and one of the goals will be to take the oil.

we can argue about whether or not it's stealing but we'd need a lot more information about the terms under which we kept the oil if we did. But you said Trump said we should have stolen it - he said nothing of the sort.

There are plenty of ways we could have ended up with oil from Iraq without it being stolen. For example, we could have stayed until the country was stable and negotiated payment for our services in oil - something along the lines of "hey Iraq, we liberated you and stuck around until you had a stable nation. That cost us 'X' amount. We think it's worth this much oil." Or we could have said "hey, if you want us to stick around while you rebuild, we're gonna need some compensation for it. How about some oil?"

accidents will happen. Unless you ride a bike or walk everywhere...you are part of the reason we need pipelines. There are already 2.4 million miles of energy pipelines in the US including 72,000 miles of crude oil lines. I imagine shipping oil on trains or trucks is a safe and economic alternative.

I own two electric cars, we only use our gas car on long trips because there aren't enough charging stations (yet) outside of urban areas. We also have the money set aside for solar panels once we buy our house (hopefully by the end of February).

We're far from perfect (give me allll the steak and chicken), but I'm probably not the best person to use that "you're part of the reason we need pipelines" argument.

Renewables are the answer. Homegrown oil is just a messy band aid for a government that is irresponsible with it's finances.

I have some questions?

1. if it was your land wouldn't would you want a pipeline on your property?
2. Who is at fault when there is a problem if it is a accident?
3. Is the land and just getting stolen by the federal govt with eniment domain when said party doesn't want it like the Soiux in the Dakota's ?

4. We as Americans should find another way. People do not want this pipeline on their land and or lands . There has to be a better way.?

Make sense right since when it's done no more work. But that many temp jobs even for a couple months is still pretty nice for those people.

Yes without out a doubt 2 year-ish of work for those guys and gals but I heard on the radio those construction workers are mostly union so hopefully they will get paid appropriately. Trump also said he wanted to use just American steel but they said that would be harder then it appears on paper.
Shame we are not putting our expertise in new alternative energies .. oil and petroleum while nessesary but are in the way out. I predict by 2100 or sooner no more gas cars will be allowed in American without a permit. But our addiction will be hard thing to break.

Why the fuck are conservatives obsessed with oil? The last report I heard said that we have no dependency on foreign oil, are producing plenty to keep prices down and supply up, and there is no sign of change in the future. Granted that was from this past summer, but whatever.

It's just the way politics are. For example, Conservatives are generally Pro life, and Liberals are generally pro choice. I suspect Oil is important to conservatives as taxes are to liberal. Liberal's believe in Government, Conservatives believe in personal responsibility.

The reason why many vote one way or the other..

I guess you are a bad example. Of course, about 2/3 of electricity in this country is generated by fossil fuel, which is brought to the power plants by train, truck and pipelines.

Don't they have electric cars where you can still use gas in them when needed? Kind of a hybrid?

I also wonder if there are electric cars that are big, or electric trucks? I only dry 500-1000 miles a year. So maybe I'm doing my part too :)

yes, but unless gas is about $4.50 a gallon, the extra upfront cost of a hybrid isn't covered by the money you save on fuel.

So we should risk possible contamination of millions of peoples ground water for the few temporary jobs the Keystone XL would create?

The people arguing in favor of the pipeline and using jobs as a reason are full of shit.

Possible. It's possible you could get contamination on a number of things. It's also possible you could get run over by a truck today. I hope that doesn't happen.

The Pipeline is like many other things, some think it's a possibility and others don't. It's also possible some people had to drop their current insurance based on current Obama care because the price is drastically going up. 116% in Arizona btw..

There are pros and cons for just about everything.
