Oil Pipelines

And now the wall is actually being built.

This guy could potentially go down as the worst president we've ever had.

He "ordered" the wall built. The dumbass still has to find a way to pay for it.

I guess you are a bad example. Of course, about 2/3 of electricity in this country is generated by fossil fuel, which is brought to the power plants by train, truck and pipelines.

He's a bad example, but it's an unfair argument even if he was a good example. Our society is what it is and being a part of it means replying on an infrastructure that evolved over decades. If you're wealthy enough and/or prioritize it enough, you can do things a little differently, but not THAT differently. The fact that this is the way things are doesn't make people hypocrites if they don't like it.

Fossil fuels are the past. Nuclear and renewables are the future. I'd prefer to see subsidizing or building infrastructure for future technologies. There's no way to make the transition quickly, but I don't understand how this issue got politicized so badly that we have masses of people that are excited and biased in favor of the old dirty technologies.

Are there studies on the effectiveness of a wall? A wall on its own isn't fundamentally good or bad. The thing we should all agree is bad is that we have 2nd class "citizens" in our country. We should all want a nation where all are equal with equal rights. But we've looked the other way and let a large population of people come here to work for lower wages with fewer rights. We need to fix that, there's no simple answer, and a wall might be a part of the solution. Not the whole solution, but a part of it.

...and why do we talk about the temporary jobs of the pipeline so much, but never mention the temporary wall building jobs?

Why the fuck are conservatives obsessed with oil? The last report I heard said that we have no dependency on foreign oil, are producing plenty to keep prices down and supply up, and there is no sign of change in the future. Granted that was from this past summer, but whatever.

Its ridclues because the future wars will be fought over water and not oil. Now I am not talking in the next 10-50 years because the oil guzzlers are still in power
(Espically ExxonMobil). But access to clean water is going to be a issue in 50 to 200 years from now. Water is very key to any countries future in my opinion, and like normal our politicians bow down to the all mighty petroleum compaines. If America just had a leader who was daring to lead the way toward a cleaner future it would be amazing . Neither the Democrats or republicans dare do this.

We need to have a better way to let the good minorities in, and keep the bad ones out. Maybe the wall helps. I'm tired of seeing illegals who are criminals reaping the benfits of Americans.

Water may have been part of the trigger in Syria.

Still tied to energy. We can (and will have to) desalinate ocean water. It will take a lot of energy. That's why we need so much research into new energy technologies. We can't just keep scaling up fossil fuel use. Nuclear seems (to me) like the right answer in the 50 year time frame, but we need to keep pushing on everything else too.

Eventually, I expect water pipelines to replace oil pipelines.

Trump and his neo-cons are setting America up for the next war. This wall is going to be so expensive and I am pretty sure Mexico will tear up the bill when he send it to them. There is a number of ways to strengthen the borders without building a wall. But the wall is coming sadly. BTW all Americans democrats and republicans want what you want mitch. OBama wanted to do immigration reform and as you know the Republicans wouldn't let him.

I agree with everything you said...I hope your right but with the beef and Cattle industry clear cutting the world water depletion is a big deal in the future

Man the thought of water pipelines replacing oil pipelines is a great future to believe in and to root for.. We need the will to want to change.

I agree there might be a better way but it is what it is. I guess I don't see a huge problem where immigrants have to go through a more strict way to get in.. It's not like Obama didn't build a wall, or maybe it was a fence.

We should be 1st. Americans. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. I'll wait to see how much it will cost and who pays for it etc. before I get mad about it. Last week we just gave the Palestinians 221 million. It's Washington, money gets spent.

I once saw a map of the world, I think it was in National Geographic, that looked at imports and exports in terms of how much water was used to produce those goods. The US was a big exporter of goods requiring water usage. To me, that suggests that we may have more water security than most of the world. That isn't necessarily true though.

I can't find it, but I found what appears to be the same idea from another source. If like me, you think water is a big deal geopoliticaly and going to be a bigger deal, then this map is something to be aware of.

Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Europe. Pretty interesting. Wish I could find the National Geographic map. It was more detailed.

It's just the way politics are. For example, Conservatives are generally Pro life, and Liberals are generally pro choice. I suspect Oil is important to conservatives as taxes are to liberal. Liberal's believe in Government, Conservatives believe in personal responsibility.

The reason why many vote one way or the other..

I understand all that. I just don't get why oil is a political issue. It shouldn't be.

Thanks.. Great information.. National Geographic does do great work. I have the issue about water somewhere in my house but it is a older issue now 5-10 years ago i think...Post that other one if you find it..

100% agreed.

Build the wall. It's not going to stop illegal immigration, though. Desperate people will find a way in. The real problem lies in how we deal with these people. Just sending them back isn't good enough.

The criminal aspect of illegal immigration should be shut down immediately. I'm not too concerned about a guy who gets thrown in jail for having a bit of marijuana, but when a habitual criminal is caught, he should be thrown out of the country.

The one thing that really bugs me about Trump on this issue is making Mexico pay for it. I'm not quite sure what he's talking about. Mexico isn't the only country where illegal immigrants are coming from. We have a HUGE problem with illegal immigrants coming from Asia and Central/South America. Why not make them all pay for it? Hell, it'd be easy, too. Stop foreign aid to them until it's paid for.

Trump says it should cost about 15B dollars. I doubt it'll be that low, because when the government builds stuff, costs skyrocket. I don't care what he's said and promised, this has been a fact since long before I was born.

That's a great map and I feel stupid for not realizing so many came from Asia.

Not sure what the cost will be in the end but it will be a huge cost and US tax payers who will end up footing the bill for it. Remember the upkeep per year on a 2000 mile wall will not be small . I agree with you cost will skyrocket. Great Map !!!!

This wall is not going to be doing shit. People will find a way to get in. A ton of immigrants find their way in through tunnels. I honestly feel like this thing will be half finished, Trump will be gone in a few years, and the country will be left with a 10 billion dollar unfinished wall that needs to be torn down.

Call me a pussy, but walls are flippin stupid. These things will erode and be broken down in a matter of years. The cost of building it will be one thing. How expensive will it be to maintain this monstrosity? Billions upon billions of dollars will have to be spent to fix it every year and maintain it.

This president is such a joke, and republicans know they f'ed up putting this guy in office.

Not sure about that last statement people still seem to be exited. Only been a few days. I even gave Obama 2 years. As far as getting in anyway, well yeah. I have an alarm for my house which gives me piece of mind but if someone wants in bad enough they'll get in. Still feel better about the alarm..

Though you could be right about a half done wall.
