OT: beer choices

I wanted to try something new this weekend and instead I'm now thinking about Founders. I'll probably end up in the liquor store looking for something new and just mindlessly gravitate over to some Breakfast Stout. Girlfriend will be like "I thought you were trying something new this weekend?" I'll respond: "Me like Breakfast Stout. Me no like change. (beat my chest like a gorilla)."

I hear ya. Change is overrated when what you're used to is exceptional.

where you at? I have a friend who lives in cincy, and he's always bitching about how he cant find fat tire anywhere in oh.

It's abundant in the Charlotte area. Every store I've been to carries it.

We refer to Fat Tire as "Boulder Budweiser" and yes, it's not from Boulder.

From my travels and experience it seems that it's all the same... Some hipster IPA brewed "locally" in Kentucky is indistinguishable from some IPA from Washington and the macrobrews ... after one sip, pretty much taste the same.

I remember being in A2 and going to Blue Front to buy the 22oz Solsun or other "kind beers" as my hippie friends called it. Trapper's Ales, Raspberry Ales, Chocolate Stouts ....all shit.

Just get me buzzed ...that's the point, isn't it?

My first-born is home brewing beer, and it's pretty dad-gum tasty. He just finished an IPA that I'm anticipating.

Love me some 3 Philosophers. Okay, more than "some"...much more...but a little bit goes a long way. A bit pricey, but excellent for special days/nights/events. Definitely not an "everyday" beer. For that, I'll stick to Sam as I like their seasonal options as a cheaper way to mix things up throughout the year.

just had a Monster Ale the other day

it's a barley wine style beer

it was horrible...yuck!!

Sander's Chocolate Stout on the other hand was very good.

Beer is one thing I am a complete snob about... I hate domestic beer for the most part. If I have any domestics I tend to stay with Sam Adams. I like Molson Canadian and XXX for cheap imports. But, there are soooo many good beers out there. I do that (buying single bottles of different kinds of beer) quite often. It is a great way to find incredible beer. A lot of times you will find that with those single bottles comes a huge amount of alcohol content. I will have to think of some and post them...

What the hell is XXX?

I've heard of XX or Dos Equis, but not XXX

XXX is (or was) only available in Canada and is very high in Alc content.

I get bored sticking to any one style though. I'd be happy sticking with the right rotation of go-to beers though.

Old Rasputin
Two Hearted and Hopslam
Raison D'etre
At least one of the Unibrous, probably Don de Deux
Three Philosophers
Rochefort 10
Weihenstephaner's Hefe
Some saison, jolly pumpkin makes a good one.
Founders porter
Victory Prima pils

PBR

Went to the store at lunch and grabbed two that caught my attention. First one is called "Criminally bad elf". Says its "barley wine style ale" 10.5% alcohol

Second one is called "santa's butt" it's a winter porter 6% alcohol. I figured they were getting rid of the Christmas styles so if I'm going to try them, now is the time. No sure if ill have one tonight because I'm kind of busy but ill report back my opinion after I enjoy them.

How long has he been at it? I sort of hit a wall around 20 batches/1year...I'm not burned out yet, but I'm brewing less often right now.

Well, if "Criminally bad elf" tastes anything like the barley wine style ale that i just had called "monster ale" then it'll taste like dog shit and you'll our half of it out in the sink...

Ya, after reading your previous post I've totally lowered my expectation for that one. Thanks for the heads up. Too bad I didn't see your post before I bought it. Oh well. Might surprise me.

hey! at least yours is 10.5% alcohol. I doubt mine was that strong. If nothing else, you can slam yours and get a good buzz.
