Paris or The Walking Dead?

If I were a betting man, I'd say this was a hoax. I don't know if they can validate it but I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out it's complete b.s. And even if it's not b.s. it has nothing to do with Trump who has never expressed a desire to deport all Muslims or all of any other race or religion unless you consider illegal immigrants to be a race or religion.

Coincidentally my post also has nothing to do with proving or disproving anything about Trump.

wow, is it also a coincidence that I didn't say your post did?

Why did you bring Trump into the discussion? Since you did though, I think it's fair to point out that racist incidents targeting Muslims has increased of late (link, link, link). Although you will probably just call all this "a hoax." and those links mention nothing of this much worse recent incident.

Also FWIW, here arw some of Trump's statements regarding Islam/Muslims: link, link, link. not to mention his infamous claim about seeing "Muslims" celebrating on rooftops during the September 11th attacks, or comments attacking the religion and patriotism of the Khan family

I'm not say Trump invented Islamophobia; it's been a process decades in the making. But he had no qualms about incorporating it into his rhetoric and fanning the flames of it for publicity and support.

Trump was specifically mentioned in the letter. As for the increase in hate crimes, those are mostly anecdotal claims, not actual data and again, Trump has nothing to do with them. The election was a month ago, do you really think they can produce accurate data on hate crimes or any other that quickly? And doesn't it seem a bit of a stretch to link it all to the election, considering the spike terror attacks in the West in general over the past year?

Go ahead and link, link, link to a bunch of articles that say nothing and blame Trump for everything then throw a fit about it on the internet. You're only making yourself look dumber than you already have - I guess I was wrong, it is possible.

I'll post the facts:

According to FBI statistics from 2014, anti-religious hate crimes overwhelmingly target Jews (57%) then Muslims (16%). Total reported hate crimes were down 6% from 2012. The percentage of religious hate crimes when down from 18.7% to 17.1% but the proportion targeting Muslims did go up a bit from 12% to 16%. You need an ID and PW to access to the 2015 data and 2016 isn't available yet but to put it in context, there are 3.3mm Muslims living in America and alleged anti-Muslim hate crimes went from 155 in 2012 to 182 in 2014, that' .0055%. Tripling it would get you to a rate of 16 one thousandths of a percent. Islamophobia is not a real problem in America. Granted, some of those are property crimes which generally target more than one victim but it's still not enough to say Islamophobia is a great threat to western civilization and it's less than 1/3 of the anti-semitic crime that more violent people who think like you about Jews commit and nobody says a word about that.

You responded to my post so I mistakenly thought you were responding to me. My apologies.

I was just talking about the contents of the letter which stated that Trump was going to do to the Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews - or something like that. The letter could be authentic but I'm suspicious given the nonsense about the threat of islamophobia. I'm not condoning it or saying it doesn't exist, just saying it's not the epidemic the media would have us believe.

well, fuck me for letting you move the goalposts on this one. original point - and even my later point - was not that "Islamophobia is a great threat to western civilization" but that it's bullshit we freak out semantically with the "radical islam" label, but I've never heard people here targeting Muslims with discrimination labelled as "radicalized christians."

i know anti-semitic crimes increased as well as anti-islamic crimes; one of the articles I linked to had the stats. the number of anti-semitic hate-crimes has increased more post Trump, but both saw increases. neither one excuses the other, of course. call it the Breitbart effect...

The world is full of kooks who say crazy shit.

Trump has said a lot of crazy shit himself, but he has never as far as I've heard said anything about genocide.

These people who are speculating that this is Trump's aim are in my opinion bat shit crazy.

I concur with both of you, I was only pointing out that there is a contingent of people who do feel this way, where jwl seemed to think these folks were imaginary. Trump has, in my opinion, been unfairly attached to these characters (or perhaps they have unfairly latched onto him). But the kooky shit Trump has said hasn't helped him distance himself from them, they still think he's their guy.

Yeah; now that he's the president-elect I wish he would comport himself always the way he did on election night when he was projected to have won; still getting into twitter wars and shit; it's like "dude? You won - give it a rest..."

On the board is this tread about a Republican Electoral College delegate who has decided that Trump is too kooky for him to vote for.

It's going to be interesting... I feel like he has 50% of his party behind him and the other half is a mix of those who are begrudgingly supporting him, but would rather not and those, like this delegate, who still want nothing to do with the guy.

Just this morning I read another article from the local paper, which is not making my Commonwealth look good, about a Phillies concession vendor who got canned for white nationalist views. The article contained a link to an interview with her from some white nationalist website. Many of the comments below the video were supportive of her views and a few mentioned how Trump was going to bring about the change white nationalists seek. They are his supporters whether he wants them or not.

you're the one who brought the dramatic increase in hate crimes against Muslims since the election - why bring it up if you don't think it's a problem? Clearly, you must. I merely proved you wrong - that's not moving the goal posts. I don't know what to say about your comment about one excusing the other - nobody is trying to make that point. I was merely pointing out that that anti-semites (like you) commit way more hate crimes than islamophobes and we don't even bother talking about it. It speaks to the point that if anti-semitic crime is more than 3x anti-islamic crime and anti-semitic crime isn't a problem, then Islamophobia and anti-islamic hate crime in America isn't a thing either.

it's going to be interesting. I don't see how folks could expect him to be less of a hollywood celeb post election - doesn't seem to be his nature. Obama did his part in destroying the prestige and respect of the office and it looks like Trump will at least continue the trend.

For the record, I still believe he'll be less bad at the job than Hillary, but only time will tell how much less if any...

Right.

In a country of 300,000,000 a very small minority percentage can still look like relatively a lot of people.

I sort of shy away from what I view as "the fringe" of any kind.

It's a shame that there are people who think those things but I don't think it reflects poorly on Pennsylvania or even the Phillie's organization for that matter. It's like saying all Italian-Americans are mobsters just because they either are or have at least one cousin who is (I'm kidding of course). It's ridiculous.

It seems to me that every time I hear that the Los Angeles Dodgers are hiring concession workers there are huge lines for those jobs.

I guess if you hustle and put on a little bit of a show you can make pretty good money in tips, plus you get to go to the games for free.

I don't know why a person would risk a job like that if they like it by publicly engaging in a discussion that most people find it reprehensible.

I'm pretty sure the black people go to Philadelphia baseball games if I were a vendor I would certainly want to sell as much to them as I could sell to anybody.

I predict his support will be closer to 100%. Look at his transition team & his VP (who is purportedly going to run things while he tweets and sees to his own business interests)... if youre a standard issue Republican, or even a more extreme racist nutjob one, what's not to like? Sure maybe they would've preferred calm, scandal-free Jeb! but as long as Trump puts their guys in power and let's them operate who cares?

and if Trump really takes things too far on twitter, and becomes "bad for business" ... no big deal. his personal business dealings are a quick ticket to impeachment. he's a nearly perfect vessel to further their agenda.

At first I thought this didn't seem fair; hate to see a working person lose their job over their personal beliefs - even if they're abhorrent. But after reading the story, I don't have much sympathy for her. she went out of her way to make her horrible beliefs public, then stood by them. Aramark (& by extension the phillies) couldn't keep employing her without implicitly condoning white supremacy.

I've attended many games in the Philth, especially when our Tigers are in town, and there are certainly many non-whites in attendance, as I think most of us would suspect. In her interview on the racist website, she mentioned that she loved working baseball games because it was a white sport, attended by white people. She even went further to say that she enjoyed selling pistachios (her nickname is Pistachio Girl) because they are Iranian making them an Aryan food choice. Both she and the interviewer weren't too hard on the eyes...too bad the inside isn't quite as attractive...
