Police Presence

3. Movies/video games......we sure have come along way in 35yrs with violent games/movies...remember pong? lol, hardly violent.

As a child of the 60s, we boys played "little army and big army", as well as cowboys and indians with toy weapons, and toy soldiers while using our imaginations. There were also interactive board games such as "Battleship" and "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots" and we often played the most dangerous lawn game of all, being "Jarts". I dispute that movies were not as violent, as there were far more Westerns and war movies being produced back in those days.

"I got you!"

"You missed me by a mile!"

"The problem with quotes on the internet is it's difficult to tell whether they're accurate or not." ~ Abraham Lincoln

Did Lincoln actually ever really say this?

Because I just recently saw the movie, it wasn't in it.

Battleship(calling out a number/letter) vs. killing 1,000 people in a video game?
John Wayne's vs. Arnold's movies?.....
rock em sock em vs. actual paint ball shootings....

you're seriously telling me movies/games were more violent 35 yrs ago?
Sure we had WWII movies depicting battle scenes, Although I dont remember guts/blood flying around on 25 people (typical scene today) during a battle scene.

I don't think the issue is which was more violent. Whether John Wayne and Charles Bronson shot someone, or Schwarzenegger or Stallone did, it's still violence. Period.

I don't think anyone in their right mind can actually blame TV/Movies/Video Games for what happens, any more than we could blame the manufacturers who want to put the weapons they see on the big screen/TV screen/game console into their hands.

The excuse that anyone is to blame aside from the sick fucks who do this kind of stuff, is ludicrous.

Re: the violence of video games and more today causing an increase in these events, I believe there are fewer kids today who go hunting. Contrary to the popular opinion of hunting causing kids to go and become murdering psychos, maybe the act of hunting and seeing an animal's life taken in real life was a more sobering experience about the precious nature of life. That and kids who did like the idea of killing bad an outlet.

No, not saying I have facts to back this up, just something that popped into my head and willing to admit I could be very wrong on this topic.

that's what I'm saying. It's the persons actions not the object.
I dont blame the gun just like I dont blame the car for someone getting killed when the driver is drunk.

Actually the quote is attributed to Lincoln's secretary, John Hay. But over time, Lincoln himself got the credit.

Then I cant follow what you were saying.

Because it sounded like you were trying to say all the violence and video games and lack of church going destroyed our morals so that was the reason these assholes run around and shoot people.

I was asking the question or trying to answer the question of "why are we more violent now then 35 years ago".....those were 2/3 ideas....I dont think we were born more violent...so it must be something???
