With Sanchez reportedly back long-term, it looks like Porcello is going to be the odd man out. What are some realistic trade packages we could pursue?

Is a Porcello and Castellanos based package for Giancarlo Stanton out of the question?

There has been several teams interested for sure this offseason. Colorado, Pittsburgh and hearing now Texas has become very interested in Porcello.

I honestly don't believe the Marlins would trade him right now for anything with Selig already had looked into this firesale this offseason. If the fans were not pissed off enough if you move Stanton they would go ballistic.

Porcello and Castellanos to the Rockies for Tulo or Cargo and a reliever would be the dream trade.

As long as they are getting quality in return, who really cares or can complain? Porcello is very young, has had good MLB success, and would be more valuable to a team with an infield that isn't constructed or bronze statues. Castellanos is one of the best prospects in the game right now too. As much as I'd LOVE Stanton, I'd still have some slight reservations of trading away those two guys because I think both could be very good MLB players for years to come.

Yeah I am sure Miami would be setting there remembering what happen the last time they traded with us for a top OF prospect and a Starting Pitcher and how that turned out for them lmao.

The Marlins are the dumbest franshise in history, I'd do all my trades with them - they're all bound to come ahead.

Yeah, I hear ya, but these are better and more tested prospects and Stanton is a lesser player than Miggy, IMHO.

There is 0% chance the Marlins trade Stanton. They keep great talent that is CHEAP. When he is due for a big payday he will be gone....that isn't for several years.

Stanton, right now, has more trade value than Miggy did when the Tigers acquired him.

And no, it isn't close.

Trade value and talent aren't comparable so whats your point.

That's kind of my point. Trade value is what someone is willing and able to give up. That's way harder to measure and way more volatile. Top 10 prospects can change so much from year to year, that it's almost pointless to compare the two.

I don't think anyone can say with a straight face that Stanton is or was or will be a better player than Miggy. But he's 19 and cheap. Different things.

Because he said Stanton was less talented than Miggy as a reason for the trade.

But despite that, it would cost more to acquire Stanton than it did Miggy.

When discussing trades, trade value is what matters, so it's kinda important.

Also, trade value encompasses talent as well as age and contract status.

After their first 3 seasons, Stanton and Cabrera's offensive numbers are very similar. Yet, Stanton is one of the best at his position, where Cabrera isn't/wasn't.

Cabrera was traded after 5 years in the ML. Partly, because his arbitration years were behind him and would no longer be under team control. Stanton still has 3 years of being under team control.

If you are measuring their first 3 seasons (both at age 22), then Stanton is clearly better based on defense.

I'm not disagreeing with you... I'm saying that I view Stanton as a slightly lesser player than Miggy was back then (feel free to disagree), and that may help offset some of the age and money advantages he's have over Miggy back then. Also, you can rank Porcello and Castellanos any way you want, but I doubt anybody would argue that they aren't better than Maybin and Miller. That's the changge in prospect rankings part I was talking about.

Porcello is way better than Miller, because his an MLB track record. Maybin was a top 10 prospect in all of baseball. Castellanos is only in the top 50, but he is still not that far removed from Maybin.
