Porcello trade scenarios?

I understand Garcia has upside, but he did not really perform that well in the majors, he didn't have a single XBH. I was impressed with his plate discipline, as it was better than I was expecting, but he still rarely walked.

He's got some value, but he will never be one of the main pieces in any trade that nets you a good young player, he's a player you add on to supplement the main pieces.

Which honestly was the idea. Porcello is a guy you can plug into your rotation right away, Garcia is just that extra confluence of need and availability. I did even mention early that we might need to add more pieces. I don't know which pieces, but Texas must be getting pretty desperate for pitching with the top names off the board.

I don't know if that deal would work or not, but I agree with the desperation angle.

I have to think the lack of quality SP available pumps RPs trade value up at least a little bit.

If Texas was smart they would stay far away from Porecllo. I think he will be traded to an NL team.

IMO, we're going to have to wait and see what the Mets get for Cy Dickey before we know Porcello's offseason value this year.

Looks like the Tigers bench is currently comprised of BU catcher and alleged top "pitch framer" Brayan Pena, SS/2B (meh) "Sneaky Power" Ramon Santiago, 3B/1B (yuck) "Scrappy" Danny Worth, and (for now) OFer and likely introvert Brennan Boesch (whose bff Delmon Young is history). Weak on offense, and mediocre on defense at best, so I think that is the area that really needs to be addressed and upgraded if possible through any trade(s). Boesch could possibly again become close to being the hitter that he was for a couple of months in '11 but obviously that is VERY unlikely, at least with the Tigers. His OF defense has also frequently been horribad.

The Tigers could probably use an OFer who could platoon with Dirks, but I don't think that is as great of a need than improving/upgrading their bench. Quintin Berry was a pleasant surprise when he replaced Jackson who became injured and went on the DL last season, but soon after Austin returned, his offense took a nosedive for much of the rest of the season. Garcia likely needs to remain in the minors, so that he can learn and grow while hopefully also discovering his power stroke.

Yep. definitely need bench guys. Though I bet if you look, our bench as far as sucking is probably not any worse than elsewhere.

I saw the talking heads mentioning the Rangers and Angels as being interested in Porcello. We could match up well in trades with them, but I'm skeptical we'd be trade partners since they seem to be the front runners in the AL race.

I would think they'd have enough SP.

Texas is currently trotting out a rotation of Holland, Darvish, Harrison, Ogando, and Perez, I believe. Porcello would probably slot in as a #4 there and allow Ogando to go into the pen. They've got an extra middle infielder to send in return.

The Angels would have a rotation of Weaver, Wilson, Hanson, Williams, and Richards, I believe. Porcello would probably be their #3. They've also got a glut of outfields to send in return.

According to what I read on Rotoworld, the Angels have stated that Trumbo will not be available in any trade, but of course that could change if the ballclub decides that their significantly improved offense is not enough to mitigate the loss of Greinke.

Maybe they still won't trade Trumbo prior to the start of the '13 season, but will wait until later in the season to move him, if it becomes necessary (injury(s) to their pitching staff and/or unexpectedly subpar/declining offense from one or more of Trout, Hamilton, and/or Pujols for example) in the event that they cannot trade Bourjos or Bourjos+ for a SP who would significantly upgrade their rotation.

EJax is still available in FA and RA Dickey is being shopped by the Mets, but I don't know if the Angels have the necessary pieces that the Mets would want in exchange. The Angels are one of the teams in the mix for Dickey, but according to MLBTR, the Blue Jays are on the verge of acquiring him.

Really not keen on trading Kid Rick or Porcello+Boesch for example, to any AL team that could/might face the Tigers in the postseason, but if the Tigers obtained a position player or players who would improve their OF, IF, and/or bench, then I guess that the Tigers FO just might pull the trigger and do the deal.

I would love for the Tigers to be fortunate enough to get to face Porcello in the playoffs.

It would be great if that team also gave the Tigers pitchers a free out by running Boesch out there.

Angels have been in contact with Tigers about Rick Porcello.
from mlb traderumors

The Angels have been in contact with the Tigers about Rick Porcello, reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. The Pirates, Padres, Rangers, Phillies, Twins, and Royals also have interest in the right-hander, though Knobler says Detroit doesn't have interest in Pittsburgh closer Joel Hanrahan.

Trumbo sure would look good in LF this season.

Throwing crap at the wall here, but how does Porcello, Castellanos, Peralta, and Boesch for Trumbo and Aybar sound?

Why, cost? Just curious. Nonetheless, why would the Angels trade their starting RF?

He's a better version of Delmon Young, his only offensive value comes from his HR power he's a bad defender, and he really wouldn't provide anything more than a marginal improvement over Dirks, if he provides any improvement at all.

Horrible.

How so? It seems like a good fit for both sides to me.

Aybar is locked up affordably through 2016 and is better than Peralta. Trumbo is cheap, good, and controlled through 2016 as well. We could use a long term SS solution and a good young corner OF.

The Angels need a good young starter. Porcello and Castellanos are young and valuable, but they have greater value to others than us, Peralta would give them a SS replacement for this year and they could move Callaspo there next season and give Castellanos a shot at 3B (his natural position), and Boesch is garbage and needs a fresh start... why not get him back home to LA?

I think you are selling Trumbo short here. He's about 50pts better in slugging and OPS than DY, he's good for about double the HRs every year and more RBIs, and while he's not a plus defender by any means, he's a better defender the DY and can actually play another position in the field (1B).

Right now we're likely trotting out a Dirks/Boesch platoon. I'd take Trumbo over that any day of the week.
