I see they have played a few games. I didn't watch either game but looking at the box score scares me a bit.

Killian Hayes, their first lottery pick, took 9 threes in 2 games, only making 1. Why on earth is he taking these shots? He only shot 27% from the international 3 point line which is closer.

Head coach. He wants the team to shoot 3's.

It's important to remember that how good the rookies are THIS year has zero bearing on the team. The coach SHOULD be pushing them to improve their games in ways that might be valuable down the line. Hayes didn't shoot well from three, that's true, but he has a good shot (free throw percentage actually is more indicative of future three point shooting), and the league needs shooting out of perimeter players (Bey too is taking a lot of threes, and that's really his ideal skill).

To be honest, I'm pretty encouraged by the fact that the team isn't starting Rose (who is almost certainly a better player right now than Hayes). Maybe that changes in the regular season (I hope not), but minutes and opportunity are way more important than wins right now.

I always figure don't change to something you're not good at. Its like signing an NFL player who is a 3-4 guy onto a 4-3 team. Make zero sense. With Hayes, he only play 10 games this season. You have to take that into account. On the other hand the distance is further than when he played in Europe so maybe he needs some adjusting.

IMO, Rose is the Pistons most important player for the first half of the season. They should be using him in a way that would boost his trade value. If he can duplicate what he did last year, without getting hurt, he will probably fetch a first round pick from a contender at the trade deadline (which would be a late first).

Let the young guys play, let Rose "pad his stats" while he is on the floor, and lose a bunch of games and hope for a top 5 pick. That's the best case scenario for the upcoming season.

Rose had 11 points and 8 assists off the bench in 17 minutes. Pistons beat the Knicks 99-91. Hayes struggled shooting the ball but had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He played 25 minutes. Dombyoua lead the team off the bench with 23 points 5 boards in 18 minutes.

“I definitely have thoughts on that. The people in Detroit are great. I love the fans, but the franchise over there is raggedy as hell. They don’t know a good player. I was giving them a lottery pick for free! Has the skills to play and the notoriety to bring everybody to the game. How do you throw that out the window? They’re gonna learn the hard way. My boys are gonna end up together playing somewhere. ‘Gelo can shoot the lights out. That was raggedy what they did. But hey, they’re gonna learn the hard way.”

Lavar Ball.
