The one to rule them all

Will we actually see some starters tonight?

Hope so. Least a few plays. Have my dvr set.

Trent Williams is quietly become available. He does not want to play for the Redskins. We should try and trade for him. Left tackles like him could make a huge difference for Matt. Offer two or three 2nd round picks or 3rd round picks. The Redskins want a late first round pick. Try and snag him if possible!

I get the feeling that coaches like to use the joint practices as more of a preseason for vets than actual preseason games. They are not televised, so no game film can get out, you cant hit the QB's and the hitting is a lot less brutal. Guys still go 100% but without as much violence.

I watch the NFL channel a lot when I run......seems to be the way to go for a lot of coaches. I do hope to see Stafford tonight.....but wouldn't be surprised if its very limited.

Catch 22. We get off to a good start and nobody mentions preseason the entire year. We get off to a slow start and it's all we'll hear about.

didn't the Lions go 4-0 in the preseason of their 0-16 year?

Yes. And I remember telling a buddy right before the regular season started that I though we'd win 7-8 games that year because the defense looked so good in the preseason. We were flying around the ball. Simms, Daniel Bullocks, Paris Lenon......we'd gotten Dwight Smith and Dewayne White from Tampa and they looked good. It looked like a fast, hard hitting early 2000's Tampa Bay cover 2 defense.

Then real games started......and we looked like middle schoolers vs. the varsity.

I admit it.....I thought the 0-16 team might finish .500.

I'm not smart.

Injury precautions influencing preseason starter usage across the NFL.
Thursday night reminded everyone that preseason games are real in the physical dimension.
It seems like everyone is weighing in on whether or not Matthew Stafford ought to play in the third preseason game (we did too) for the Lions, so here is another take. This time, it is Dave Birkett at the Detroit Free Press making the argument that Stafford does not really need to appear in the game.

As pointed out by Mike O?Hara on WJR 760, a lot of the ?first-team reps? that some fans would like to see from Stafford in a game setting have been addressed in joint practices where both teams are definitely using their starters. According to Michael David Smith at Pro Football Talk, teams playing preseason games without their true starter taking any snaps is fairly widespread: twelve teams had not used their starting quarterback at all in their first two preseason games.

Birkett?s point about it being a ?high-risk, low-reward venture? has already been made tangible for other teams in preseason Week 3. One of the teams that hadn?t previously used its starter was the Carolina Panthers, and their 2015 MVP quarterback ?luckily? sustained what appears to be ?just? a mid-foot sprain against the New England Patriots.
The Lions Wire?s Jeff Risdon took note of another Thursday night injury scare for the Green Bay Packers when first-round pick Rashan Gary and presumptive WR4 Equanimeous St. Brown both left preseason action against the Oakland Raiders early.
Head coach Frank Reich?s decision to sit most Colts starters (including potential Week 1 starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett) for their third preseason game against the Bears had safety in mind:

Really hoping that Davis injury is just a little sprain and not an Achilles. They took the shoe and sock off and took him to the bench and not the locker room. So maybe thats a good sign.

Locker room now. Crying on the way in. Never a positive sign.

Unbelievable , done for season i bet just like that ... One of the guys we so needed to make that next step too in order to have a dominant defense

Heard all preseason how good Reeves Maybin has looked. We are likely to find out.....quickly.....if his progress is for real.

This is straight garbage. He was one we couldn't lose.

At least stafford looks accurate and better then the media was making it seem.

If he can put weight on it im not sure thats a completely torn Achilles. But any injury to the Achilles is most likely the season for him

Bad penalties but nice to see Stafford get out of trouble and make a nice throw !!
