November 14, 1966, when he scores his 627th goal, Detroit?s Gordie Howe becomes the NHL?s all-time goal scorer, including regular season and the playoffs. The goal comes in Howe?s 1,233rd game and breaks the record of the legendary Maurice Richard.
 
November 15, 1927, in one of the most important moves in franchise history, Jack Adams is named coach and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings. Adams will spend 36 years with the Wings, building a hockey dynasty and helping establish one of the best farm systems in the sport. The NHL trophy given annually to the league?s best coach is named for Adams.
 
November 21, 1996, Steve Yzerman registers one goal and two assists in Detroit?s 6-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, to move ahead of Alex Delvecchio into second place on the Red Wings? all-time scoring list.
Yzerman will finish his illustrious career with 1,755 points, trailing only the great Gordie Howe among Detroit players.
 
November 22, 1927, the Detroit Cougars play their first NHL game at Olympia Stadium.
The Cougars will later be renamed the Falcons and then the Red Wings.
Detroit?s professional hockey club will play their home games in Olympia Stadium for 52 years.
 
The Barn in Windsor where Detroit played in 26-27 is also planned to be demolished in the near future.
 
November 24, 2006, Detroit?s Chris Chelios plays in his 1,496th game, setting a new NHL record for players born in the United States.
 
November 26, 1961, Gordie Howe plays in his 1,000th game, becoming the first player in NHL history to reach that mark.
Incredibly, the 33-year old Howe will go on to play 767 more games at the top hockey level.
 
November 27, 1965, Gordie Howe scores his 600th goal in Detroit?s loss to the Canadians at the Montreal Forum. Howe is the first player in NHL history to score 600 goals.
 
December 1, 1960, When he earns an assist in the third period, Gordie Howe establishes a new NHL scoring record for both regular season and the playoffs.
His 1,092 points surpass the previous mark held by Maurice Richard.
 
December 4, 1968, Gordie Howe scores his 700th career goal in a 7-2 Detroit rout of the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
Howe is more than 150 goals ahead of the second player on the all-time list at the time.
 
December 27, 1979 - the Red Wings play their first game at Joe Louis Arena, their new home in downtown Detroit. They lose to the St. Louis Blues, 3-2.

December 27, 1989 - Detroit’s Jimmy Carson scores three power play goals in one period against the Toronto Maple Leafs, setting a team record. Carson and the Wings tie the Maple Leafs, 7-7.

December 27, 2010 - Detroit’s Chris Osgood becomes the 10th goalie in NHL history to win 400 games. The historic win comes against the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3 in overtime.

December 28, 1929 - the greatest goalie in Detroit Red Wing history, Terry Sawchuk, is born in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Sawchuk won three Stanley Cups with the Red Wings and is elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971.

December 28, 1952, the Red Wings defeat the Bruins 7-1 and extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games, a franchise record.
Detroit wins eight games and ties seven during the streak, which started on November 27th.
