Sad day for all of us from Detroit. "The Queen Of Soul" Aretha Franklin has left us at age 76.
She had a God given beautiful voice that was one of the if not the greatest of all-time.
With her roots in Gospel, I remember when she first came on the scene, as all my friends and I heard her for the first time.
There was the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, all the greats, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Sam and Dave, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Jr. Walker and The All-Stars, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Martha and The Vandellas, etc.
but finally this young woman from our 'Motor City' came on the scene, and rose to the top as the most gifted of all the female singers.
Sad day for all of us who remember her, and those of us who heard her in later years as an icon of the music industry.
RIP Aretha.
On this day, Elvis Presley passed away, and also Babe Ruth.
So today the Queen of Soul joins the King, and the Sultan of Swat.
