This is truly a remarkable event and it deserves its own thread.

If you missed the speech and don't want to watch the whole clip they'll be talking about it on the news all day.

I am baffled that the media I'm listening to is focusing on how Trump supporters are going to react to this -

THIS SPEECH WASN'T ADDRESSED TO THEM!!!

It's for the majority of Republicans still to vote who want someone who ISN'T Trump - just like the majority of Republicans who have voted so far; Trump does not have a majority of the delegates to date.

Basically, instead of encouraging those Republicans to choose a candidate of the three others remaining and unite behind that candidate, he's saying to rally around and vote for the candidate in your state who has the best chance to beat Trump there; he specifically endorsed John Kasich in Ohio and Marco Rubio in Florida.

Obviously, if this would succeed, it would force a brokered - they're calling it "contested" or "open" now for whatever reason - convention.

Trump supporters immediately started claiming that Romney is trying to force a brokered convention so he himself can swing in and snag another Republican nomination so he can go on to lose again.

Anyway, tonight's Republican debate should be a lot of fun.

This is as good a take down as John Oliver's.

But wait, you say, isn’t he a huge business success that knows what he’s talking about? No he isn’t. His bankruptcies have crushed small businesses and the men and women who worked for them. He inherited his business, he didn’t create it. And what ever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage? A business genius he is not.

Foreign policy

What he said on ?60 Minutes? about Syria and ISIS has to go down as the most ridiculous and dangerous idea of the campaign season: Let ISIS take out Assad, he said, and then we can pick up the remnants. Think about that: Let the most dangerous terror organization the world has ever known take over a country? This is recklessness in the extreme.
Donald Trump tells us that he is very, very smart. I?m afraid that when it comes to foreign policy he is very, very not smart.

Donald Trump says he admires Vladimir Putin, while has called George W. Bush a liar. That is a twisted example of evil trumping good.

#eviltrumpinggood

I can't stop quoting this thing.

"Dishonesty is Trump’s hallmark"

"His imagination must not be married to real power."

"Think of Donald Trump’s personal qualities, the bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny, the absurd third grade theatrics. We have long referred to him as “The Donald.” He is the only person in America to whom we have added an article before his name. It wasn’t because he had attributes we admired."

"This is the very brand of anger that has led other nations into the abyss.
Here’s what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat."

I can't stop quoting this thing.

Why?

It's all right in the video I posted and the transcript you posted.

I wonder if the new "Never Trump" movement - I guess it's a movement now - is going to start identifying the candidate of the three whom has the best chance of besting Trump in any particular state is going to start identifying and endorsing that candidate in each of those states.

I like the idea; I used to be a Republican and were I to be one today I would definitely be on the "Never Trump" bandwagon.

I don't know why teh GOP thinks Romney - of all people - would be the right one to deliver the message to voters at least. Trump's campaign has succeeded because Trump has portrayed himself as anathema to the GOP establishment.

maybe though, the intent here is to forestall any other GOP politicians from endorsing Trump? Like "Hey you saw Crispie Creme's endorsement, and the NASCAR rednecks' endorsements... but don't think for a second GOP HQ is warming to him."

True, but at least it's entertaining.

Actually what is truly entertaining, is watching all the libtards, and anything but Trump establishment pukes running around saying the "sky is falling".

I am really not a Trump supporter at all. I liked Carson. It seemed like Trump was just going to complicate things, but I know enough to know that no one really has a clue what will actually happen based on the possible outcomes.

OK step up now with all your crystal balls and tell me how the world is going to end if Trump wins. You all know next to nothing. Come talk to me when all those doomsday predictions actually happen.

Maybe all those that said they will move to Canada if Trump is nominated or becomes president, will actually do it. I say good riddance. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. I am pretty damn sure the country will survive without them.

. . . and as far as the brokered convention, he really only needs to win one of Florida, or Ohio. Kasich may win Ohio, but Rubio is double digits down in Florida, and likely to remain so.

I probably won't vote for him, but this is a fact - it matters not what you think of them, the people voting for Trump don't care. Not in the least, and no letter or speech from fearful establishment pukes is going to change it.

Also, if you want to see some pissed off Americans, try to take the nomination away at the convention after seeing the number of delegates that he will possess. I doubt that it will come to that, but if you're listening to the actual news, it will be pretty tough to derail what is happening.

If we can put up with the completely misguided ignorance of the last 7 years, and still have pretty much near the same standard of living, a Trump presidency won't be much worse.

This too shall pass - and this is one thing I truly believe. America is one of THE most resilient nations in the world, and she will survive any of the candidates we now have. I would bet the bank on it.

That's amusing too, but mainly because I think many people overvalue the presidency in this country. I wish the average voter put as much effort and thought into district and state elections as they do presidential elections. It's pathetic that voter turnout drops so much in midterm elections, for electing people that collectively matter more to the country than the president does.

Congressional approval is extremely low, yet a huge chunk of the voting population doesn't even bother to show up in the midterms.

We hear this every election cycle.

I'm genuinely curious...does anyone actually move? does anyone here know anyone that moved because of a presidential election? I could maybe understand back in the days of the draft, but today it seems like nothing more than an empty threat. Though, it wouldn't surprise me to see people who would rather run away than make any effort in fighting for change.

Fivethirtyeight did their analysis that shows Trump barely making it to the required delegate threshold before the convention, even doing slightly better than expected so far (March 15 might be a huge day for Trump). This Romney thing looks like a desperate attempt by the establishment to shake things up before Trump gets on a roll.

34% of Republican voters so far have voted for Trump, I don't think insulting that much of the base is going to end well. It's not a completely democratic process and I'm sure there's some shady shit that goes down in nearly every close primary, but undermining that choice would result in a lot of pissed off voters and might even drive some of them away.

Part of me thinks that the GOP would rather see 4 years of Hillary while hitting the reset button in 2020 over potentially 4-8 years of Trump.

This too shall pass - and this is one thing I truly believe. America is one of THE most resilient nations in the world, and she will survive any of the candidates we now have. I would bet the bank on it.

Completely agree

dang. Trump responds that Romney was "begging" for his endorsement in 2012. Romney says if he had said all this racist shit in 2012, he would have refused his endorsement.

oh snap

Mittens shows up with the sick burn!

Trump's toast now.

. . . or not.

I completely agree, we will know by March 15th whether Trump will be the nominee or not. If the unlikely happens and the nominee is determined at the convention, it still doesn't rule Trump out, no matter how much Carl Rove and the rest of the establishment would like to think so. :*)

no one who backed Ben Carson should be on here lecturing anyone else (not even spartanretard) about 2016.

instead they should be standing on a street corner with a sign around their neck that says "I have extremely poor judgment." as a lesson to anyone else tempted to fall for a candidate who's campaign is essentially a fundraising operation for their buddies' bank accounts.
