RW in contract talks with Daniel Cleary

I've always enjoyed that the Wings are loyal to their players, but at some point we have to cut bait, right? Offer Cleary a job in the front office, as a scout/trainer, or part of the coaching staff. I'm honestly not sure other teams would even be offering him a contract anymore.

Agree, let youth be served.

I also saw that Buffalo is cutting ties with Ville Leino, but I don't think he could make our team now given how well the kids are playing.
 
I hope 'in talks with Cleary' means for a low level coaching/scouting position or possibly a minor league contract.

If they are talking to him about a professional deal they are f'ing stupid.

The same Dan Fucking Cleary who had 8 points with a -11 in 52 games last year?

Why is Holland and Babcock so loyal to such a shitty player, this guy playing with the Red Wings at this point is counterproductive to the team in MANY ways.

If he gets signed to a contract to play with the Red Wings i'm boycotting the team and i'll find another team to root for, i'm that sick of Holland's idiotic loyalty to washed up vets over winning.

It's time to throw the kids at the wall and see who sticks. I could get behind a team that is learning on the job. I can't get behind a team that sends out the same old retreads and marginal players year after year. I won't go so far as a boycott but I will voice my opinion long and loud to official Red Wing channels. I mean, c'mon, my other option is the Hurricanes and that ain't happenin'.
 
It would hope it would be a two way contract for vet min. Holland mentioned that they had a gentlemens agreement to keep him in skates and wearing red. If, and it's a big if he does get a contract, I imagine those in GR will get to see Danny boy a lot. I will not believe that he will get ice time over a deserving young player like what happened to Goose last season.

Also, I hope Monster will stay on a one year deal. Swedes will talk him into it. What we need most of all is to find a way to trade Kindl for anything useful. Draft pick in '15 would be great, just need him off the roster. No one wants to hear it, but we have enough youth right now, especially with Ouellet most likely joining in, hang tight for another year. 2015 we move to strike before Dats window closes. I know everyone is Mantha crazed and maybe he will be that great, but patience please, let him be a pro for a year before he is crowned. I can't imagine how the conversations would go if he played poorly. 23 years in a row, it's awesome and you know it.
 
I almost want that playoff streak to come to an end, especially if it means the Wings will get back to making impact decisions to get back to a Cup instead of dumb patchwork/loyalty signings that put the team in position to be fighting it out for an 8th seed the last week of the season and getting clownstomped by teams like Boston in the 1st round.

Confirmed: Wings have signed Cleary to a one-year contract. $1.75 million. Down the tubes. I got nothin'.
 
Blehhhhhhhhhh. Apparently had a hand-shake deal with Holland. WTF does that mean? The guy sucks, let him go.
 
I have exactly 0 faith left in Ken Holland. Next up, I'm expecting to see Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco or Sheahen traded for some mediocre right handed dman on a big contract.

I knew this was coming so i'm not that upset.

All this really illustrates is how out of touch with reality KH is, Loyalty > Winning.

I won't be going to any games this year and won't be watching any games Cleary partakes in.

this is a slap in the face to fans of this organization. #FireHolland.

Come on X that is horse crap and you know it...There are plenty worse GM's then KH...
And getting multiply high draft picked sure has helped Edmonton hasn't it. Kenny in your mind is a victim of his own greatness.. You would rather have us tank then have a good team and do it this way which has worked... I am pissed by the Clearly signing to but maybe he will be better after recovering from his knee problems... Please tell me Kenny is worse then the teams below him or a few of the teams above him...And No I just don't want to make the playoffs but for crying out loud we made back to back Cups just a few years ago.. You were just spoiled.. Wings will be great again....with Kenny or without him...
My guess is some of the fans not in Detroit would love to have Kenny as a gm..

Yup whatever... I agree its a bad deal.. Hopefully it will turn out... I just think it is idiotic to all Holland the worst GM in the NHL...Because he is far from it...

He's in the bottom 1/3rd in the league since 2009.

The guy has done absolutely nothing to address our defensive situation after losing Lidstrom and Rafalski, I know he tried to get Suter but obviously he went elsewhere.

The Red Wings D was horrendous last year and we'll be trotting out the same guys barring a trade which I don't even trust Holland to be able to do, we'll probably see Nyquist/Tatar with Mantha out for some 30 year old 2nd pairing d-man. Holland sucks ass as a GM, he's gotten exposed. The real braintrust in Detroit was Jim Devellano, Jim Nill, Scotty Bowman, Hakan Andersson.
 
Well hopefully you will be proven wrong X.. Even you would like that.. Wins and a deeper playoff run...
