Eastern is likely to set a new record for most points by team that missed the playoffs. Currently that is 95 by Colorado...pretty sure that gets broken the way Boston and Ottawa have been playing plus the Wings win tonight. Didn't think that was going to happen this year.

Of all the teams in contention, Detroit definitely has an advantage in playing Carolina 2x...but nothing is easy with this team.

Any team playing Toronto has an advantage. Fortunately, of the remaining playoff contenders in the East, only one (Ottawa) has a game left against the Leafs.

Man, that team started mailing it in in December.

Pretty clear if we don't beat Carolina twice in regulation we probably wont make it.. We probably are not beating the Canadians in Montreal.

Although the Maple Leafs taking that point away from Ottawa really helps us..

Pens have been spiraling too. Unreal how tight it is coming into final games.

Eight in each conference. Right now in the East, four teams (Detroit, Pittsburgh, Boston and Ottawa) are fighting for the last three spots.

Check that: Islanders haven't technically clinched a spot yet, so I guess that's 5 teams fighting for 4 spots.

Do we root got Pittsburgh or Ottawa when they play each other ? I guess Pittsburgh as we could potential go 4 points with two games left but if we can win over Carolina which is a big if the way we are playing at home.
A Ottawa win over Pittsburgh could really hurt the Penguins chances.. As I think we hold one of the tiebreakers over Pittsburgh.

One thing is clear.. Red wings need to take at least 3 of 4 points from Carolina and all 4 should be expected with the talent
disparity of the two teams..

I think we pull for Ottawa over Pitt. Reasoning is that Pitt has Isles and Buff after Ottawa, likely they beat Buff. That puts them at 97pts. Ottawa has Rangers and Flyers left. They could potentially lose both of those, but if they win 1 after beating Pitt, that puts them at 97.

It looks like the 96 threshold will be bumped up to 98 this year, but it is possible a team with 99 pts misses the playoffs this year if all teams win out other than Pitt losing to Ottawa.

And Carolina plays tonight vs Buffalo then tomorrow night vs Wings. Wings have everything going in their favor for that matchup, they better not screw it up.

Yup they better come out with a purpose Tuesday.

Boston and the Capitals play next also.. Hopefully we don't blow this...

Heard on the radio The Wings can clinch Tuesday with any type of win and a Pittsburgh win over Ottawa win in regulation.

I also heard we had to win in regulation first but just heard it could be in OT also..
