There is a balancing act coaches have to go through between winning games in a playoff run, and playing a struggling rookie.

Deep into the season, we were still in the hunt. Bench him, and win those games.

If we were out of it by week 8, let him play and season him up.

I dislike a lot of things the previous coaching staff did, but I think their approach with Slay was fine.

there again, you're missing the point. we were in total control of our own destiny at that point. win and we're in, lose and we're out. Mathis came in for Slay and played pretty well, so the coaches went with the "hot hand", so to speak. Mathis gave us the best shot at winning at the time. you don't want to put a struggling rookie in down the stretch of a playoff hunt.

hind sight is always 20/20, and you can look back and say your opinion, now, of what should have happened then was right, but at that time, your opinion was dead wrong given the situation we were in.
