***shaking head in total confusion***

its neither. its called I chose not to get all slap happy over a 2nd round wr that has little to no production since hes been in the league playing with a qb that hasn't been able to get any production out of any WR not named CJ since hes been here. We paid Tate like a top FA WR and he hasn't proven to be a threat on the outside the way say an Emmanuel Sanders has....who also got a cheap deal and is a proven down field threat. Most of you agree WR is still one of our primary needs. So why would I get excited about a signing where it was considered our FA "splash" and yet is still our primary need? Go get Sanders for less money and fill some defensive holes would have been a better plan in my opinion.

Of course you don't get excited. It's your schtick to shit on everything this organization does. "They should have done this". You'll never be happy. And i don't think anybody is saying Tate is the second coming, but anybody who knows football can see the potential of having a relevant #2 next to CJ. I watch the NFLN everyday and i haven't heard one negative comment about the Tate signing. He's 20x better than what we have right now.

A luxury signing? Dude, we had Kris Durham as our #2! A kid (Broyles) who can't get on the field. A special teamer (Ross) and a guy who just runs in a straight line with bad hands (Ogletree) as our options. How in theeeee fuck was a WR a luxury pick??

And then now you wanted E Sanders??? You're some kinda special. Do you get rocked to sleep every night or what? lmao

didn't want sanders. I said IFFFFF we were dumb enough to spend money on wr I thought it should have been sanders.

The RBs stepped up. 1,053 yards combined. Similar to Baldwin/Miller (1,100) the Seahawks number 2 and top TE.

Detroits offense did well without a number 2 and 3. Burleson was on pace for 800 yards by the way too, he just missed 7 games. Just imagine having a good number 2 and 3 with good coaching. Elite.

If Detroit lost their 1-2 WR they would be picking top 5 easily. But yeah, with a solid 2 and 3 they have the potential to be special. Depth depth depth. Another draft like last year and just maybe they start to build that depth.

if you think martavius Bryant cant come into this offense and put up 800 yards and 6 tds like you want tate to do (if given equal opportunity)....then Stafford blows donkey ass.

If you think Bryant is going to put up those numbers as a rookie and you say he's going in the 3rd rd? That's delusional...

Rookie WRs usually struggle their first year. I like Bryant though...

you don't watch much football...I get it. Its all good. Tate is a downfield threat. Emmanuel Sanders is just a possession guy that doesn't catch the ball much. Ur absolutely right...my bad. As far as your "more opportunity" theory...sanders got less than 1 more target per game than tate....whoopidy doo...

You are the biggest tool I have ever encountered in my 27 years on this earth. Congratulations on always being right on everything you make up and say. You're right I have not watched a game of football in my life neither college nor pro. There is no having an intelligent conversation with you when all you do is make shit up and flip flop your position every other post.

4.3 speed....dont use him to stretch the field. Definitely cant take the top off....peytons just going to use him like wes welker...im sure thats the plan! /rollseyes

Ur the one that ASSUMED Sanders got more opportunity than tate. Reality is they got virtually the same targets.....but its my fault ur stupid. Its cool....blame me all ya want.

Did I ever say he wasn't going to be able to stretch the field in Denver? Did I even hint at that? No. There you go again making even more shit up. I'm simply trying to point out you saying Sanders was a cheaper option was wrong and that he is a better outside WR and deep threat than Tate is debatable. But you don't post facts or stats to debate or back anything, you just make even more shit up call me stupid and accuse me of never watching football. Arrogant prick.

O and as far as the more opportunity I was referring to the FACT, not something made up like you post, that Big Ben had 584 pass attempts when Wilson 407. Clearly there was 0% more opportunity for Sanders to get anymore production out of those extra 177 pass attempts.....

But no we FOR SURE could have drafted TWO guys, not one but TWO guys, that could have came right in and started as our 2 and slot WR. The draft is sooo deep with these talented wide outs! Tate was a luxury we cant afford!

Almost every analyst (besides Hughes) said that wr was our biggest need. We go out get one of the best available at a decent contract and that becomes a bad thing. We dropped more balls than any other team. We get a receiver with the best hands in the nfl the past 3 years, and that becomes a bad thing.

First of all those analysts are not too smart sometimes. And to be honest after CJ they were pretty shitty but imo defense was still the biggest need. Just look at where we were, ranked, in offense. And then look at defense. Did we need a WR, sure, but it wasn't our top need.

We need a DE. We got one. The starter Jason Jones back.
We need a safety. We got one. James Ihedigbo (higher ranked than Delmas)

We need a CB. We got a draft or Houston/Slay could just get their act together too. Their play is not stagnant.

You are sleeping on the talent of Jones, Slay and Houston. Plus we got a draft. Set at DT, set at 2 main LBs, set at safety other than depth (but there is experience behind the starters), pretty good at DE with Jones back.

how sad is it that we address WR every frikken year and we STILL need 2 WRs going into this offseason? Nice job mayhew.

when you have a post talking about defense and your main talking points are Jason Jones, James Ihedigbo, Houston, Slay....your defense is below average at best. All those players need to be upgraded for our defense to be a GOOD defense. Slay is the only one with a future out of that bunch.

Houston was good in 2011 and 2012 as a number 1 CB.

Ihedigbo is an upgrade over Delmas.

And Jones was our starter last year. We got better at DE adding him back.

Plus a new young innovative DC.

ThAt's because Delmas is injury prone and not very good in 2013. I don't mind Ihedigbo but we still need S help.

Jones might have been our starter but we need a new DE and move him to depth. Imo, Houston is about done.

I'm intrigued by Austin so I hope it will improve. But we had Houston, had Jones and though Ihedigbo might be an improvement - it's not enough to get the defense to where we all hope.

Some might improve, Slay for example, but I can't imagine Levy playing up to last years level.

We still have the draft so I hope we get a CB, a S, a DE, a LB by the time our last 4th round comp. pick occurs (so basically in our first five picks). We just need Mayhew to hit on then..

Houston was kinda good 3 years ago and has never been more than a 2.

Ihedigbo is an upgrade over Delmas. Which isn't saying much when youre barely better than a cripple with no knees that never practices, is constantly late in coverage and tackles without his arms.

And Jones was our starter last year. We don't know if we got better because his knee exploded recently and hes just now starting to work out and run full speed in a straight line. Taylor and Tapp as depth is meh at best. Zero DT depth for a dline that is accustomed to rotating a lot.

Plus a new young innovative DC. innovative meaning hes only been a dc once before for 1 year at florida before he lost his job. He knows secondary which is where we struggled so hopefully that will help.

***fixed***

Austin lost his job at Florida because Urban resigned....new HC usually almost always cleans house....I haven't been on the boards for awhile and didn't express what a great hire Teryl Austin was....Caldwell hit a homerun with the hiring.

Slay's future is arguable at best. He looked pretty much lost all the time in his rookie year but most rookies do for that position. Year two will tell a lot. I'm pulling for him but he did not give me much hope at all.
