Dave Birkett stated on twitter today that major changes are coming this offseason and Grandy's post leans towards the fact that the Lions have already begun to search for a new coach. I want to know if you guys think Mayhew should be shown the door along with him.

Lewan has been just as bad. Not sure how detailed you want me to get in listing the way that mayhem has sucked but ill start with my general conclusions:

Cant draft well
Cant attract FAs - Bush in Tully the only 2 GOOD signings since hes been here
Started Wendling for several games
Didn't react to Best injury
When 1 player goes down on offense the entire unit sucks
Coaches have been horrid....they all stay the same
ST has suffered in recent years due to lack of depth
Lack of depth in secondary for several years now
Avril debacle cause friction in the locker room and carried over to other signings
Has a playoff talent team playing at a 4 win level last year and 7 wins this year
Stafford has regressed
Suh has regressed
Calvin has regressed
Youtube is his go to recruiting engine

If Mayhew is fired, I won't be mad, but I'm ok with him staying one more year. Let's see if he can put two good drafts together. If last draft was all Xanders, then keep him and get rid of Mayhew. But what smart executive do we have to make that decision??? I don't trust the Fords to make that decision.

I think it's fair to blame him for picking these coaches, although overall I think Mayhew has done a pretty good job increasing our talent level. No GM could've attracted good FAs to the Detroit most of these years. That's part of going 0-16 and recovering from it.

Most of your complaints have to do with poor coaching. Mayhew helped pick some of the coaches, but he himself doesn't coach the Lions. Other than coaching, I think Mayhew's biggest mistakes are not having a backup plan for Best, and not drafting well in the later rounds, in order to maintain depth (so guys like Wendling don't start).

All in all, I think the Avril decision turned out alright. We let him go and got Ansah and Devin Taylor in the draft, who more than make up for him.

Calvin has regressed?

Mayhew deserves to stay. Tulloch, Bush, Quin, Burleson are the only starting FA he had to sign. 52 of 53 players were not on the 0-16 team.

He has made his share of big mistakes. His biggest was extending Swartz. He can fix that on Monday but he better make a good hire or he will be next.

I'd add - couldn't put a number 2 wr next to Calvin if he cloned Jerry Rice
- Drafting rbs high
- drafting rbs at all before fixing the oline
- thinking Peterman was starting caliber
- thinking the 2012 team was going to the super bowl
- BPA which died this year thanks to Xanders

GM's job is to put the talent on the field. I think everyone on here would agree that the Lions are capable of winning 10-11 games with the current roster.....so my vote is stay.

It wasn't so much the decision to move on without avril that he jacked up. Its the fact he had a willing player that wanted to resign for cheap.....he said prove it....avril proved it....then mayhem renigged and wouldn't give him his money. That shit doesn't go over too well in the locker room....delmas quoted the avril debacle several times when he was negotiating his new deal.....guys remember that shit....and the bottom line is if mayhem didn't screw up....avril could still be on the roster for cheap, contributing, if he would have signed a year sooner.

we lost to the giants....this isn't an 11 game winning roster.

Moving on the right call after avril didn't prove anything in 2012. Franchise right move for him and his shit run d

smart move would have been to resign him for 6-8 mil per the year before he put up huge numbers.

8-8 in a normal year. It was an 11 game winning roster this year because we played the 3rd easiest schedule in the NFL screwed the pooch. That is why Schwartz is fired, you'll never get a year like this again where everything is handed to you on a silver platter.

we'll never know....play the afc west and NFC west this year and were probably a 5 win team. But as you said....we had all the stars aligned for us and didn't do shit....so ill go ahead and assume if we played a harder schedule we would have a worse record.....not be an 11 win team.

oh, you mean pissing picks away by trading up for the the likes of Best, Leshoure, Whitehead?

Not to mention jacking up our regularly scheduled picks with the like of broyles, spievey, dwill.

Thank god Xanders locked mayhem up this year during the draft.

Avril was fuckin terrible.

Mayhew did the right thing. You conveniently forgot to mention the offer Mayhew did make that Avril turned down before Avril CHOSE to be franchised (he knew he'd be franchised if he turned it down).

Avril tried to strong arm the Lions and he paid millions for it.

Great job, Mayhew!

I had no problem seeing Avril.. Taylor will be just as productive

ummmm....taylor wasn't just as productive. And ya....I was on board with letting avril go once his demands were too high.....problem is they never should have got that high if mayhem didn't fuck up.
