Avril was fuckin terrible.

Mayhew did the right thing. You conveniently forgot to mention the offer Mayhew did make that Avril turned down before Avril CHOSE to be franchised (he knew he'd be franchised if he turned it down).

Avril tried to strong arm the Lions and he paid millions for it.

Great job, Mayhew!

Correct...which is when I joined the get rid of avril train. But avril tried to strongarm the lions after mayhew tried to strongarm him.....its all on mayhew. Way to jack it up mayhew!!!!

He has made his share of big mistakes. His biggest was extending Swartz. He can fix that on Monday but he better make a good hire or he will be next.

In this case I think Tom puts it best. And Hughes, every GM makes mistakes. None are perfect. Maybe Mayhew made more than you'd be ok with, but I think most of us see that he has put a talented team on the field. With a better coach and another good draft, I think the Lions are plenty capable of winning in the playoffs.

less catches, less yards, and several games where all we talk about are his drops.....ya id say so.

Yeah, um......that's just stupid.

Several games (so with a 16 game season, I would imagine SEVERAL means 5-6 ) so besides Baltimore.....which ones?

And CJ having fewer catches and yards are a GOOD thing for all parties. You saying he's regressed proves what an idiot you are!

Making the right decision is "jacking it up"?

Trollers troll.

Yep.

Tough to be level headed and realistic on this board....the trolls will find you!

Keep him, just be sure to change the name plate on his office, business cards, office directory, game brochure, and even company email to:

Senior Pi?ata

If that doesn't drive the point home on a daily basis, then that's exactly what he should be turned into.

the right decision was to sign him for cheap prior to daring him to be good...then he was good. He bet on him failing...and he lost. Then after he lost he didn't live up to his word. People don't respect GMs like that.....and the lions play like they have no respect for anyone in this organization...including themselves. All on the GM....nice job mayhem.

He calls people trolls cause he wants us to join his breed.

Can't do it. How are the fluke turnovers/fluke losses working out for LKP? -15 turnover ratio this year, 1 less than last year with still a game to go!

So when/if he doesnt fire Schwartz you think mayhew should be fired? I think the 2 should go together....mayhew extended Shorts and now there are reports he wanted to fire him a year later? how fucking dumb is that? they both should go.

I'm ok either way. If he's fired, then I hope we get a great GM (I have no idea who that'd be). If he stays, I hope he hires better coaches and the Lions play better. But I think there is no way Schwartz should still be the coach after this Sunday. I would've liked to see him fired after this past game.

I feel ya bro but if you're going to say he regressed don't use last year's numbers as the reason why when he set records. No way he was going to equal those.

Lewan has been just as bad. Not sure how detailed you want me to get in listing the way that mayhem has sucked but ill start with my general conclusions:

Cant draft well
Cant attract FAs - Bush in Tully the only 2 GOOD signings since hes been here
Started Wendling for several games
Didn't react to Best injury
When 1 player goes down on offense the entire unit sucks
Coaches have been horrid....they all stay the same
ST has suffered in recent years due to lack of depth
Lack of depth in secondary for several years now
Avril debacle cause friction in the locker room and carried over to other signings
Has a playoff talent team playing at a 4 win level last year and 7 wins this year
Stafford has regressed
Suh has regressed
Calvin has regressed
Youtube is his go to recruiting engine

If he can't draft, can't get FA's, how did he manage to get a playoff talent team? Maybe we should start calling him Mayhew the magician.

Mayhew's made some mistakes but he has also done some nice things. If they fire him they better get someone that is proven to be better, none of this potential crap.

4-5 years they have losing records but this is a playoff talent team (whatever that means)? By whose estimation?

This year compared to the other teams in our division losing their starters and multiple pro bowlers we were a playoff talented team this year. On the whole I don't see it myself. When the media say Detroit is such a good place for a new coach to go because of the talent, I don't even think we are the most talented team in the division at full strength and its not even close. Houston maybe, they are a quarterback and a few upgrades away.

I don't think you can look at it that way. You have to compare the talent to other teams in the playoffs not a weakened division. Hou with the first pick is the ideal situation for any coach, any coach coming here is stuck with stafford.
