have you heard of matt Flynn or josh mccown.....if not I can shed some light on the caliber of qbs that led their teams to better records than the lions in our division.....if youd like. Yes we should have made the playoffs this year.....no.....we do not have a perennial playoff contending team.

So the teams not a playoff talent team just in a shitty division, was just wondering cause its contradictory.

ummmm....taylor wasn't just as productive. And ya....I was on board with letting avril go once his demands were too high.....problem is they never should have got that high if mayhem didn't fuck up.

"will be"...could start next year

He didn't drive the price up on Avril. Avril's price went down after an average 2012. Only got a 2 year deal. He lost money. Lions decided to move on from him. Good choice.

Are run defense is much better both rookie DE are good against the run

I think the whole direction needs to change.

Unfortunately, the whole organization is grasping at straws from year to year. Obviously, it starts with the owner. I am not confident he can fix this thing that has been broken for so many years. Teams like New England, Pittsburg, Green Bay, New Orleans, Baltimore, San Fran, NY Giants seem to get it right most of the time. What separates them from the rest? A quality President, GM, and coach. We are missing all three. It's not that Mayhew has done a crap job. It's more like he is just not on the same level. Lewand has very little power for a President and has never been held accountable. Ford Jr. is hog tied by Daddy.

The Lions will probably can the coaching staff and hire another marginal coaching staff.

The John Gruden's of the world will find the Lions tempting because of their talent but get scared off by the GM on up. It just is not a winning organization and any Gruden type's will find that out in short order during his interview.

I hate to be negative but this is the reality in my mind.

Good GM replacements? Omar Khan, Eric DeCosta, and Brian Gutekunst come to mind. Khan would probably be able to get Cowher to come with him. Now is the time for the Ford's to seize the day and restore the roar in Motown. Heck, they may even make some money doing it.

cause he chose playing back up for a contender over getting paid by a team he knew was going nowhere? by the way..he had a heck of a year with limited snaps for them.

It wasn't so much the decision to move on without avril that he jacked up. Its the fact he had a willing player that wanted to resign for cheap.....he said prove it....avril proved it....then mayhem renigged and wouldn't give him his money. That shit doesn't go over too well in the locker room....delmas quoted the avril debacle several times when he was negotiating his new deal.....guys remember that shit....and the bottom line is if mayhem didn't screw up....avril could still be on the roster for cheap, contributing, if he would have signed a year sooner.

Its funny how terrible the run D was while Avril was here. Avril gone, problem gone. I'm glad he's gone

Detroit chose to not pursue him. Right choice. Avril had to go somewhere else. Lions DE play was good. Young did better than Avril. Ansah when healthy has immense potential and even Taylor and Idonije did good things. DE play was so much better this season.

Thanks for 2010/2011 Avril.

We're all glad he's gone.....Troll just likes to argue. NOT resigning Avril was the right choice in any situation.....and allowed us to sign Bush and Quin.

If we resign Avril at any cost.....we probably don't sign either.

The way he went about it was bad. Should have just dropped him like Cherlius, no song and dance. And remember Mayhew was the guy who reportedly offered Avril $30 mil! Because he turned it down doesn't make it a good decision on Mayhew's part. When two fools meet.

You just made me sad. What you said is all true but this organization is fk'd.

thanks cheeno for putting the smack down on booger....hard to argue with someone that doesn't remember anything that happened but just likes to argue cause hes a booger lol. That retard and LKP keep saying how it was a good decision by mayhew.....mayhew made him an offer....an expensive offer! But good job mayhew for letting him go lmao.....

if you extend avril when he wanted a long term deal hes here cheap playing a role and we can still afford bush and shitty quin. Mayhew offered him 10 mil a year.....good job mayhew.

Lewan has been just as bad. Not sure how detailed you want me to get in listing the way that mayhem has sucked but ill start with my general conclusions:

Cant draft well
Cant attract FAs - Bush in Tully the only 2 GOOD signings since hes been here
Started Wendling for several games
Didn't react to Best injury
When 1 player goes down on offense the entire unit sucks
Coaches have been horrid....they all stay the same
ST has suffered in recent years due to lack of depth
Lack of depth in secondary for several years now
Avril debacle cause friction in the locker room and carried over to other signings
Has a playoff talent team playing at a 4 win level last year and 7 wins this year
Stafford has regressed
Suh has regressed
Calvin has regressed
Youtube is his go to recruiting engine

You just say shit and hope people call you on it. There is no way you truly believe that Calvin and Suh have regressed. It just doesnt make sense. Calvin hurt all season still best wr in the game with a qb that was pressing when he started to struggle. Suh has been talked about as the most dominant DT almost all season. He played well pretty much all year.

Smart and thoughtful post that sums up my feelings. Because Mayhew hasn't been horrible, just average or slightly below he should stay? We need some standards from the top down. Chicago fired their coach after a 10-6 season we gave ours a 30 mil extension.

go look at stats of his counterparts around the league. Go look at numbers that Atkins put up before he EARNED his mega deal. Suh isn't even close to the production of those guys. He doesn't deserve his 21 mil. Maybe that's the problem with guys like suh and Stafford....they never had to earn any of their money....they got it handed to them and now they are playing below what their contract is worth.

I guess one of the best run defenses has nothing to do with Suh? 5.5 sacks for a team that doesn't blitz much is pretty darn good.
