I guess one of the best run defenses has nothing to do with Suh? 5.5 sacks for a team that doesn't blitz much is pretty darn good.

a 27th ranked pass D would say youre wrong. Why would teams runs the ball when they can throw it so easily vs no rush and a shitty secondary? other teams run the ball vs us at 4.0 ypc.....basically the same as us. They have a lot more 20+ runs than us on 70 less carries. Were not that good of a run defense.....saying that rrun ranking alone doesn't tell the entire story.

But judging him on 5.5 sacks doesn't tell the whole story either. If you're saying he's overpaid, fine, lots of players are. But he's still a very good player.

Doesn't blitz much??

An understatement to say the least.

Suh could have 8-10 more seasons exactly like this year and be a HOF'er. But he's regressed.

Suh faces double teams as often as Calvin Johnson does.....and they both still dominate. Saying CJ and Suh have regressed is asinine enough.....using it as a reason that Mayhew should be fired is just dumb.

correct, hes a very good player that is overpaid.......still doesn't mean his production hasnt regressed. Which is all I said. We consistently have players on this team that don't produce and we wonder why the team doesn't play up to their talent lol. the numbers don't lie fellas....im a bottom line kinda guy.

Suh and atkins are both tackles -.- lay off the sauce.

But you're not seeing the whole story. If there is one position where stats don't tell the whole story it's DT. This isn't about if Akins is better or if you'd take a bunch before Suh. He's a very good player.

There is no DT worth 21m, not in a wide 9 4-3. I don't like him getting paid that much either but it is what it is.

annnnnnd booger chimes in yet again without knowing anything about the topic.....

Opponents have a 106.0 passer rating against the Lions when they blitz....nuff said.

Why do tey have a 106 passer raiting when we blitz? Cause the blitz never gets there....cause the front 4 aren't that great at their jobs....and our secondary blows. So if im a GM do I get rid of a 21 mil DT that has 5.5 sacks so I can fix the secondary or the edge rushers because I still have fairly up the middle.....or to I keep the mega contracts and roll with 3 high paid guys that haven't won more than .500 of their games???/

Maybe because the defense forgot what a blitz is suppose to do.

"A blitz what's that? Been such a long time"

You can take this as you will, but I'm pretty sure Suh is one of the top 3 rated DTs by PFF this year. Every game he shows up and dominates his matchups. The problem is that he so often sees double teams at the point of attack or teams completely move the play away from him that he doesn't have huge box score stats. But the consistency with which he beats opposing O-lines and creates plays for others is elite. You can look directly at Ansah to see this. Ansah leads the team with 7 sacks despite not actually being a great pass-rusher. At least 3 of his sacks came directly from Suh forcing the QB to run into Ansah. Ansah got the sack, which is still positive, but the play was made by Suh. Suh will get no credit in tackles or sacks there, but really accounted for 90% of the play.

How do you trade a 21m DT?

For the 100th time, HE'S NOT EARNING 21 MIL!!! It's just the cap hit. He's earning something between 11 and 14 this season. It was posted earlier in this thread. Plus, getting rid of Suh now wouldn't change that cap hit! It'd still be 21 million against the cap next year (unless we give him an extension).
For as much as you say you're a realist, you only use the facts that back up your opinion and ignore everything else.

There are a few ways to look at it. When he got those signing bonuses you could say he earned that money during that first year of his contract but I don't think anybody really looks at it that way. I think the most logical way to look at what a player costs the team in any given year is what his cap hit is. I mean...just because he already got the money up front doesn't mean he earned it that year. He just got the cash up front.

Im telling you guys,......he only made 6 mil in 2012.....hes taking his 21 mil next year. And if he doesn't want to be here after 2015.....hes taking his 21 mil next year.

Like someone said earlier.....you're only using stats that back up what you say....not the whole story?

I'm not interested in the overall rating. It's not an end all stat that tells the whole story.

Situations? What was the rating on 3rd and 7+? 1st down? Goal line? When bringing 5? 6? 7 or more?

Your going to give up big plays on blitzes that skews the numbers.....nature of the beast. Especially inside the 5 on those play action passes.

You can have an effective blitz and a 106 rating. Shit, you could have a great blitz and a 106 rating.

Fact is, as Mitch pointed out, the Lions don't do it.....especially in situations that dictate it would be the best option. Like the 3rd and 15 on Baltimores last drive. No blitz. Flacco has 5+ seconds and hits Jones for the 1st down.

So you guys are allowed to say the run defense is one of the best in the NFL cause they only allow 94 yds per game....when no one runs on us cause they can throw all day. But im not allowed to use a 106 passer rating against us when we blitz when its a stat over the entirety of the season and not the generic crap you just spewed out? but im only using stats that back what im saying.....riiiiiiight.
