So you guys are allowed to say the run defense is one of the best in the NFL cause they only allow 94 yds per game....when no one runs on us cause they can throw all day. But im not allowed to use a 106 passer rating against us when we blitz when its a stat over the entirety of the season and not the generic crap you just spewed out? but im only using stats that back what im saying.....riiiiiiight.

Someone's panties get bunched easily.

Settle down Nancy, point was that a passer rating stat tells a very small part of the story, that's all. The Lions rush defense stats are above average across the board. YPC, TD, stuffs, short yardage.....all of it.

the lions run defense if very good......

Doubt it that Mayhew gets a pink slip, given the Fords' prior proclivity to retain ogres like Russ Thomas and Matt Millen long term, the latter who was the second-highest paid general manager in the entire NFL during his tenure as Lions GM. Millen likely was paid $50MM in total despite his abbreviated 2nd 5 year contract that ran through '10.

i don't think you are correct , sir

He's correct

As of right now, Suh will get paid $11 million in base salary in 2014, the other $10 million is based on the guaranteed money he received upon signing, for a total of $21 million against the cap.

Restructure monster.

Unfortunately the Lions were a victim of the tail end of escalating rookie contracts. If the rookie cap went into effect when Stafford was taken, they'd probably be much better off.

We decided to restructure on all 3 guys....essentially extending the already shitty contract. Can't blame anyone but themselves.

If that's all he is making then why do people keep saying we need to restructure him again?....doesn't make any sense. If what you posted and what you're saying is true he is making very little money over the next 2 years. Who cares if the cap number is 21 mil....pay him what he's owed and get out of this constant restructure hole they keep putting themselves in.

They need to get out of it somehow. His cap hit is going to be about 11 million more in 2014 compared to 2013, they have to make room for that somehow.

Its all accounting speak. A bonus is treated different than the base and can be allocated over the life of the contract up to 5 years. so a 10 mil bonus for a 5 year contract is a 2 mil a year cap hit. That 10 mil is paid at the time of signing but has to be included in the cap over the life of the contract. In 2012 (6.5) and 13(10.5) he had a low cap number because he converted his base to a signing bonus so it can be allocated over the remaining years of his contract. That was all good back then but now its time to pay the piper so his cap hit is 21 mil. He will only get paid 11.5 with the other 10 being paid at the time he converted to a singing bonus. We need to restructure because adding years means we can push that bonus over the remaining years (up to 5 years). So with the remaining 19 mil (2014+15) in signing bonus you allocate over a 5 year period it gets reduced to 4 mil per year. Much more manageable but when you factor in that he still will get another signing bonus you are just tacking on more money, so if you think he is worth 12 a year that money from the previous restructures brings it back up to 16 mil.

but its only 13 mil the year after that (2015)....why screw yourselves again long term just because you jacked yourself 1 year? Isnt the cap supposed to go up one of these years anyways?

It was supposed to go up but with the new CBA they are super funding the new health insurance for the players so it is eating up any bump from the new tv contracts. projected 122mil 2014, 125 2015, 130 2016.

Hey, if Lewand can work some magic and get under the cap without losing much I'm all for it. Would be nice to get Suh's contract out of the way.

I think I read if they play games and take him to the end of his contract his tag number is like 28 mil. why it goes from 13 mil in 2015 to 28...I have no idea....but that's NFL rules for ya.

Average of top 5 at position or 120% of previous year which ever is greater.

Restructure monster.

It hurts. It's like one of those 10K credit card balance's at a 21% interest rate. This is where elite President's and GM's make their mark. Compare these two teams and it may make you sick to your stomach. I warn you in advance, don't look at the 2014 and beyond one's for the Lions, may require a hospital stay.

Without even signing anyone in 2014 they'd be out (notably)
- Starting TE, C, K
- Backup QB, DE, OT

While still being over the cap by a significant amount. Some of this can be fixed through the draft, but they'll still need to shed salary or restructure.

Why is Delmas's base salary jumping up so much between this year and next year?
