Without even signing anyone in 2014 they'd be out (notably)
- Starting TE, C, K
- Backup QB, DE, OT

While still being over the cap by a significant amount. Some of this can be fixed through the draft, but they'll still need to shed salary or restructure.

Why is Delmas's base salary jumping up so much between this year and next year?

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/yearly/

Delmas contract was really a one year deal because of injury.
The Lions will not pay him his $5.5 base for 2104, they will renegotiate a longer deal or move on. He did survive the year with his knee but hardly practiced and had a so so year IMO

We decided to restructure on all 3 guys....essentially extending the already shitty contract. Can't blame anyone but themselves.

The bottom line is the Lions picked a #1 and 2-#2 overall picks in the last 4 years of not having a rookie cap.....it will stick with them for years. CJ will probably be the first to go, one, because of age, two his knees will probably cost him his effectiveness. I'll say it again.......probably a 2 years window to win it then we will have to lose some people due to the cap because of the big 3

The lions will save money by redoing SUH, cutting Burleson(or he takes a Raoila cut) and cutting or redoing Delmas. Dont see any FA being signed other than our own. We will need a good draft

we basically have to deal with Pettigrew, Raiola and a backup QB........
the bottom line we really dont need any of them

And willie young and restricted tender on joique bell

cause were dumb....guy is worth about a bag of footballs.

5.5 Base isn't guaranteed and part of his bonus based on playing time. Not that dumb at all. Easy to make a new deal with little dead or easy to cut

That's what I get for looking at 2014 cap projections in a BR article

However, I am curious as to where that extra 17 million is coming from and how it's only +3 million in 2014

All those individual numbers are from Sportrac

Nevermind

I see there's about 14 million in dead money (mainly KVB and Scheffler) contributing to the cap this year so it all evens out

just watching NFL gameday morning, they were talking about Detroit and I think it was Rich Eisen who said he was told Lions are planning on clearing out the front office as well as coaches.
The also mentioned bringing in Roman from 49ers... Rumors are rumors and I will believe it when I see it, but thought it was interesting
