Sincere Good Wishes

If this passes would we join the EU, and start paying for shit with Euros that we don't have?

I think this shit probably isn't a joke but if it were it would be funny as hell.

Definitely not a joke but still funny as hell, if you ask me. Which you didn't. I truly do wish them success, by the way. That part is not a joke. I don't have a problem with secession if the people think it's a better way.

California accounts for 13% of the US GDP by itself (easily the biggest single state), and contributes more to Federal coffers than it gets back, but we'd be better off without them because jwclo read on some Rightwing blog that they are all liberals.

To be clear, I wouldn't have a problem if Texas bolted either. It's the libertarian in me, not the conservative.

They will never leave . Not in our lifetime. Maybe 100-300 years from now. Its Just a symbolic vote. Now if they do I'm going to have to get ahold of my rich uncle Tinsel and see if he has a extra room . Bob and his wife love California it's the best state in the union by a long way !!!!

If only *ohio would secede and create their own sovereign country of Dumbfuckistan, I'd actually be happy to help pay for a wall around it.

From the Yes California Blue Book. It's a lovely place:

Although charity is part of our culture, when you consider that California?s infrastructure is falling apart, our public schools are ranked among the worst in the entire country, we have the highest number of homeless persons living without shelter and other basic necessities, poverty rates remain high, income inequality continues to expand, and we must often borrow money from the future to provide services for today, now is not the time for charity.

Unlike a lot of other states California has a 2.8 billion dollar surplus..Now it's short of what they hoped for but unlike trickle down states I guess high taxes work!!!
Go California!!!!

your data is a bit old. They had a surplus for one year thanks to a windfall of capital gains taxes due to a tech stock rally. Of course that surplus did little to alleviate their $778B debt including unfunded pensions, and are now facing budget deficits again, albeit somewhat modest this year at just $147mm.

Without similar one time gains from stock market rallies, it's going to be hard to keep those deficits low and with nearly a trillion dollars in debt, even small surpluses aren't going to do much especially considering that since Brown took office the middle class has shrunk from 46.7% to 43.5% of the population, average income had fallen by more than $5k and those spending at least 30% of their income on housing went from 20% to 44%. This is simply not sustainable, especially considering California is losing residents faster than any other state. But people who don't understand economics see a headline number and think higher taxes lead to prosperity.

Go California!

We do have some fiscal issues.

A few social issues too, I guess.

But the weather and the scenery are tough to beat; although it's cool and rainy now, but we desperately have needed the rain.

I think there are very few Californians who actually want to leave the United States.

don't bother trying to debate him, or posting actual economic data. Depending on the argument he's trying to make at the moment, California is either full of rich, out-of-touch Hollywood elites, or poor "takers" sitting around guzzling 40's and collecting welfare checks while the rest of the country puts in a couple more hours a week to support them. The world emulates Right-wing news...

When did I ever say any of that? Oh yeah, never. But if you're looking for economic data, try reading my post above or this where Governor Brown predicts a $1.6B deficit this year. The timing of Bob's post couldn't have been better - he praises higher taxes for turning California around literally the day after his hero came clean and announced what a shambles CA's finances are in and then you pile on with a bunch of nonsense about things I never said. You two can't get out or your own way. Classic.

Here are some more sobering facts for liberals who don't understand accounting. Jerry Brown has increased CA's budget by over 70% from '08-'09, Schwarzenegger's final budget. This year's budget includes annual increases of $524MM to CA's pension funding payments because their plan is massively underfunded due to overestimates of returns on plan assets. According to the Times, using the State Controllers numbers, the plans are underfunded by $241B.

You should go easy on Champ. He's just a lawyer.

I bet the california model would work better then Sam Brownback's Kansas model of trickle down heroics that you Reagan clowns so love. But this is why I just don't give a shit anymore. Mr Orange doesn't seem to give a shit so why should I? Fuck it make it so there are zero taxes on everyone and thing.. Heck corporations don't get enough tax breaks anyway so let them pollute their way to zero taxes..

California or Kansas take a pick. Hint it's not even close .
