Socialists/communist stick together

Like the American President, Chavez is running on his record but knows he must address unmet promises and troublesome realities. Crime, high inflation, unemployment, food shortages, rampant corruption, a steady crackdown on individual rights, and the crumbling of the rule of law stand as obstacles in his bid for another six years as Venezuela’s el commandante-in-chief.

dam, they're the same!!!!!!!

You didn't know that?

Except for all the people Castro has killed, recent Popes have loved Castro.

He doesn't persecute people for being Catholic, if they want to be, and he "shares the wealth;" a very Catholic tenet (for other people's money, not necessarily the Church's money; it's the other way around, the Church likes other people to share their money with the Church).

On virtually every issue not related to sex, the Catholic Church is very left wing.

Clearly, I needed to keep reading before replying. You got this...assuming by "the Church's money" you mean their art and antiques and such. That's where the money is locked up.

How much would the Sistene Chapel go for, ya think?

If I were a wealthy collector, I would consider putting in a bid on it.

Although it wasn't really as big as I thought it would be, once I actually saw it in person...

Red, the point of my response is - and I'm not trying to be antagonistic towards tsmith, I'm sure he's a nice guy, and he's a Detroit sports fan and all; that said -

This is a silly thread.

Linking Chavez and Castro to Obama?

Please.

One could much more have easily have linked Chavez and Castro to John Paul II.

That was the point of my response.

Not that I think you needed me explaining to you what the point was.

Although I am percieving that you are a little more literal sometimes, than I might have thought you would be...

"By the way, I don't want you Catholics to get upset here. This is not a rip on the Church per se; it's not a rip on Catholicism. It's a rip on the people who have been running it, starting with Cardinal Bernardin. But the point is, they fell for a seductive notion that the redistribution of wealth equaled charity, that robbing Peter to pay Paul equaled charity. And that allowed them, under the tenets of Catholicism, to support liberalism and socialism. And that's what they became. It's a really brilliant piece. It prints out to six pages and I haven't the time to go through it all, but I did excerpt it. I'm going to share it with you as the program unfolds. It is so good, it's the reason I'm gonna revisit the subject."

So, obviously...the speaker (not written, it's original medium was the spoken word) isn't specifically agreeing with what he is referring to from a text he had read -

But - the speaker apparently found the text to be food for thought...

And the speaker...

in this instance, bringing up the notion of liberalism/socialism of the Catholic Church...

is none other than...

This guy.

Himself (disclaimer - the calitalized first letter is simply proper punctuation; is not meant in any way to imply any deification or supernatural essence).

It's hit or miss-especially in the last few years. But I was really thinking about the current Pope with the 1st reply. When I saw that you were talking about John Paul II, then it was clear.

Oh.

"Political views from the Papacy still go back to John Paul II; the aging current former Nazi Pope doesn't count; he never really says anything, and nobody would give a shit if he did anyway..."

Thought I had kinda tried to point that out, just a little bit..

That's when it clicked. But I replied to post #3 before reading that far (mentioned in post #8)

Yeah, I'm just goofin' on ya now, my BiS...

I swear I used to be better at this! (...but then again, I used to be worse. 2010. I was horrible in 2010.)

I'm looking for work again. Things might get better if I get a real coworker. Wish me luck. I'm swinging for the fences right now. Pretty long shot.

Ha, ha...good luck.

You'll be fine.

Six months I'm on the phone, giving parents advisements on their childrens' reading progress, and the other nine months I go out on Hollywood Boulevard and give away free tickets to tourists to attend the tapings of live late night television talk shows.

Keeps my language arts skills sharp.

Doesn't help that much with math, though.

My boss left for greener pastures in 2008 taking most of the lab with him. We thought he could advise remotely and I had the tools to finish grad school here. 2009 and 2010, I went from being a guy that went to an otherwise empty office on campus with no lab to a guy that just worked from home. 2011, I did a post doc from home and then joined a start up in another state...so more working from home. I haven't shaved regularly for ages, but I do have the discipline to wear pants...well, shorts. Also a shirt. T-shirt or polo.

Not having human coworkers probably isn't healthy, but being able to walk the dog in the middle of the day is a pretty great side benefit.

You don't give out tickets for Conan do you?

Well, nobody's asked me to yet.

Conan isn't "out on the street;" neither is Ellen, those shows fill up without any help.

Ferguson and Real Time with Bill Mahar and Tonight Show tickets are fairly regularly out there and Dr. Phil and America's Got Talent are pretty regularly being booked out there too, and some of those cable sitcoms, like "Men at Work" and "Baby Daddy" and "The Soul Man," and a few others; one guy had "Chelsea Lately" for a little while, but that wasn't very regular.

There are four of us that have doing different shows out there forever; I've come and gone a little more than the others; I would used to leave every time I was hired for an executive position for some big show biz or media company, and of course, I would end up going back out there every time I ended up getting fired.

So, right after I went back the most recent time, that was four years ago, the economy went into the tank.

So I thought "screw it," and except for the seasonal phone job I do in supplementary educational products, I haven't even bothered applying for a job since.

Conan fills up more than the Tonight Show...go figure. (Are the theaters close to the same size?) If I'm ever out that way, I'll have to look you up and see what's cooking.

I just reread the chapter in Lasting Lessons about getting hired one more time than you get fired. ...that's all it takes.
