Steven Moya, Tigers LF?

What are the odds he breaks camp with the Tigers in spring training as the starting LF on opening day? He is literally everything the Tigers are looking for in an LF: a lefty bat with power and above average defense. Only one massive flaw and that is he could swing the bat like the White Sox version of Adam Dunn with even fewer walks. If he shows consistent contact in ST, I think he would be the best option in LF for the Tigers.

I am sorry, but the only thing Moya does well is he hit Home Runs.

He doesn't hit for average. He strikes out a ton. He tends to ground into his fair share of doubleplays.

He is one of the worst for plate discipline/drawing walks. At least Dunn drew a ton of walks. Moya consistently has an OBP under .300, even if he has a good SLG.

Defensively, at 6'7", Moya is not quick to the ball and his routes are sluggish at best. He has an OK arm. I have not ever seen a report describing his defense as "above average".

On second thought, and after the winter so far, Moya is exactly who we need to guarantee a horrible season.

He is the most overrated tigers prospect since Wilkin Ramirez. I honestly would be surprised if he ever got more than a cup of coffee at the major league level

Anthony Gose is far worse an option in the OF than any other player we have had. And we traded Devon Travis for him straight up.

There is approximately a 17 run difference between Moya's offense and Gose's offense. That is 3 win difference.


If Gose's defense was on par with Alex Gordon, then you would have something. And yes, he could see an improvement from CF to LF, but not by the amount he would need to be average in LF.

Anthony Gose's defense is highly overrated. He would have to have a UZR/150 of approximately 20 just to be average. He is worse defensively than Rajai Davis and worse offensively than Rajai Davis. And Rajai Davis is a below average LFer. And yes, Steven Moya is probably a better option than Rajai Davis in LF. But even Moya would be below average.

Run Collins out there everyday. Why we picked up Maybin and Aviles is beyond me. This team is gonna really be irritating to watch all year. Wait to Miggy and or VMart go down with injuries, it will be ugly. Indians and Whitesox are shaping up nicely. I see last place for the kitties.

Stop gap type players, that will all probably hang themselves if they are given a long enough rope.

Now, I AM NOT saying that Gose is the man. But that fielding and batting taken together he is the best of the current options--Gose is better at baseball than either Collins or Moya.
Not be a lot, but by enough.

I absolutely agree that for the Tigers to be a contender something needs to change in left or center or both.

Or just about everything has to go the Tigers' way.
