Still Stupid

You would think Palin?s people would have vetted the ?vet.?

Although the vet John McCain?s people didn?t thoroughly vet Palin.

A lot of failing to vet in these vet stories going on.

So articles claim they dropped Palin off at the wrong airport (dick move) and got Cheney to autograph a water boarding kit (funny).

Yeah, I agree...

It's one thing if she's too stupid or lazy to vet the "vet..." but where they drop her is out of her control; there's kind of a fiduciary obligation violated and a potential lack of reasonable care afforded...

I'm not sure that there isn't something criminal in what happened, actually...assuming of course, that is what happened.

Because it is a little far fetched that CBS/Showtime would be that reckless...and Palin has claimed some fairly wild shit in the past...

it could be a violation of the stolen valor act which I just googled to see if it was an actual law or just something veterans (rightly) would get pissed about and saw that the third link was to an article about how Cohen's latest prank could be a violation of the law. I couldn't read it because whatever site it links to is blocked at work.

Edit - upon further reading about the Stolen Valor act of 2005, it appears it was struck down in 2012 by the U.S. Supreme Court as an unconstitutional abridgement of free speech under the First Amendment in a 6-3 decision. However, in June of 2013, Obama signed the Stolen Valor act of 2013 making it a federal crime to fraudulently claim to be a recipient of certain military decorations or medals in order to obtain money, property or other tangible benefit. it appears this law hasn't been challenged. If Cohen claimed to receive a medal (like the purple heart) and obtained a tangible benefit, he could be in violation.

I was talking more that willfully and intentionally taking her to the wrong airport with a minor child could possibly be viewed as kidnapping or wrongful imprisonment.

I also think that Sacha Baron Cohen posing as a disabled vet was in bad taste, even though he sometimes funny.

I have claimed to find Milo Yianapolous Generally funny and to my knowledge I?m the only poster on this board who has ever said that; but he has gone too far also in my opinion, Just like Samantha bee and Ann Coulter and other political humorists that I like have nevertheless gone too far also at times-again, in my opinion.

I think the last time he was funny was when he went out in new york in character as Borat and got the shit kicked out of him. Hearing him scream like a little bitch was pretty hilarious.

When someone "goes too far" in your view, do you inform them of that in any way, shape or form, or merely express that view to those in your general vicinity and move on?

It seems like there are no real consequences to one "going to far" in your view,
given that you apparently continue to watch their shows, movies, public appearances, writings or other related content they produce.

I love it when people that mock the dumb shit I like get the shit kicked out of them hurr.

There are no consequences of how I view anything, at least regarding anything that gets into the news.

Which makes me no different and just exactly the same as anybody else expressing their opinion on the Detroit Sports Forum regarding anything that gets into the news, whom are all also completely inconsequential in the greater scheme of things, regarding things that get into the news.

Except maybe for Vic.

I couldn't care less about the subject matter he chooses to mock. Before his Ali G character was widely recognized, it was hilarious but once he became a star and started doing movies, he kind of jumped the shark. You said it yourself that his last few movies were awful. The Borat one was probably the best and it wasn't funny.

But yeah, when a guy is warned not to go out in character and he does it anyway and ends up getting knocked around a bit and screaming like a little girl on his own video, that's pretty funny regardless of who he was trying to make fun of.

everyone has their own lines for determining when someone has gone too far and those lines tend to be a lot more or less generous depending on how the "humorist's" political beliefs line up w/ their own - gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion factor heavily into where those lines are set as well. Obviously my politics are very different from Samantha Bee's but my issue with her is that she's just not funny at all.

I don't know, there probably are some posters here who take action and make a difference. I remember champ challenging others to put their money where their mouths are and bragging about how his convictions were so strong that he wrote a check to Bernie Sanders so he could change the world and look what happened there...

I don't see a celebrity going too far as something I need to do anything about. For a comedian, I'd say they go too far if their joke would be funny, other than the fact that there's something repulsive about it. It's not a decision I make, when I go from laughing to "that's not a funny thing to joke about" the feeling isn't voluntary, but I feel they've gone too far. I don't feel like it's my job to do anything about it. Laughing immediately stopping is a somewhat involuntary indicator that you don't have with a politician or something else, but there is an analogous feeling of "this person has gone to far and I'm not on board anymore."

What happened there? He's still fighting for everything he said he's going to fight for.

he's still serving the country, still doesn't take SUPER-PAC or corporate money, he founded a movement to back candidates across the country who want to further his policies, and practices, all of which I agreed with then and still do now.

I will keep giving him cash.

Here's a list of his accomplishments:

It can be funny even if it's mean, if the person deserves it.

"Humor" that hits at the weak, powerless, non-public, etc. isn't funny to me.
