Team Needs

If we take a cb at 5 ill be pissed, we need someone in the trenches whether its on O or D I dont care.

We need a difference maker be it DE, stud LT in Joeckel helping RT out and run blocking on both tackle spots with Reiff moving there to RT or CB . If that's in a form of a corner who can do well against number1 WRS for years and have 5-7 picks a year. If we take Milliner and he's just a solid CB and the DEs and Joeckel are studs, then we made a mistake but we won't know that until 2014 at the earliest for sure.

Such a shitty situation. If I didn;t know any better, this team looks to be in complete rebuiling mode now. Not sure what out cap ituation looks like, but it can't be all that good with what we have tied up in 3 players, Suh, Johnson, and Stafford.

This team was built to win and compete for a Super Bowl in 2012. We have to absolutely have the greatest draft in Detroit Lions history to even compete for a playoff spot next season IMO. We have not just needs, but huge needs all over the field. People have mentioned the obvious positions of need (DE, LB, CB, S, OL, WR), we also need a KR and a punter, maybe even a kicker too. Ugh. I can't remember a Lions team that was due for this much turnover in one off season.

I can remember many teams that needed this much turnover it just never happened.

You don't think Freeney is done? Agree on Clady, pipe dream. So many good wideouts, some of them age going to be available.

If I had to take either Avril or Freeney for run support I'm not sure who i'd pick. The freak, even in his prime, was bad in the run game.

I didn't really like Milliner yesterday, but one game shouldn't define who he is. To be completely honest, Warmack is arguably the best player in the draft. He absolutely killed ND, often 5 yards in front of every run knocking LBs on their arses after pushing DT/DE's right out of the way.

Guard isn't exactly a sexy position, and maybe won't have as big a singular impact as a DE/CB, but man would he be a huge upgrade. We might actually have a run game, which would help sustain drives and shorten the game. Defense still a huge issue, but a dominant blocker can help everyone on the O-line.

Guards are important, I hope we get one. Not at 5 of course. Maybe 2nd/3rd round..

Honest question for you. Let's say Moore and Mingo are off the board, Joekel too. How upset would you be if the team picked Warmack?

Honest answer: Outside UM I don't follow college football these days so I couldn't fathom a guess..

I disagree with cb being a pick of priority. To me its a luxuary not a necessity. Who cares who you have if you can't get a pass rush, even deion can't cover all day. Who cares who you have if you don't have a safety to help over the top, who cares if all a team does is go 4 wide and tears up the other side of the field. Millner top 5 would be a waste. Give me a guy in the trenches that can impact every play.

No team gets a rush all the time. And when you don't, you need a secondary that can cover.

I wasn't sold on Millner all season. He's a good player, but is benefitting from the Bama hype, "He's the best corner on Bama so he must be a top 10 pick". Millner would be a reach IMO in the top 10. I like the DE from FSU or maybe Mingo from LSU or Jones from GA.

I agree he will be a solid player but in no way an all pro worthy of a top 10 Pick. The first time nd threw at him he was beat and didn't bother looking for the ball. After that he played well but had constant safety help by haha. I wouldnt want to see him at field corner. He's definitely got the build and physical tools to be a nice boundary corner in the league but I only want him if we trade down to the 12-20 range.

If we trade down a few spots to around 10-15. We can take Chance Warmack or Taylor Lewan. Then use our next two picks (early second and maybe late first acquired from trading down) to get Barrett Jones and Fluker. Those guys have all already grown together, think of the continuity they'd have if we let them play together in the nfl for years to come!

As much as I don't want to miss out on defensive talent, that would be a really intriguing possibility. Swapping Raiola and Peterman with Jones and Warmack would make life a whole lot easier for Stafford and LeShoure. I'm not as big a fan of Fluker, as I think he benefitted a lot from the other guys on the line and run heavy Bama scheme (he wasn't very good in pass-pro).

Skip on Fluker then and let Reiff take the RT spot. Maybe let Backus go and lets get Lewan/Warmack/Jones. I'm hoping some form of trading down/up with the first/second/third rd picks can achieve this. Sure it's risky staring all rookies basically on the OL, but I like the theory of letting them all grow together.

I agree it's very intriguing. I don't think there is too much risk if you pick quality players. There have been a number of pro-bowl and all-pro caliber linemen in their first year. Warmack wouldn't worry me at all. Jones would benefit from being next to a known teammate. Lewan is as good or better than Backus was coming out, and he turned out fine.

Another option that wouldn't require as difficult of a trade scenario could be Warmack-Jake Matthews-Jones. Matthews is young, and an ideal RT candidate. Rieff-Sims-Jones-Warmack-Matthews could be great. And even if Backus doesn't retire, we can retain him in jumbo packages.

finally me and lkp agree on something. World is ending! but totally on board with this. joeckel and the 2 des are worth the top 5 pick. If all 3 of those guys are gone which is very possible then Milliner or Warmack become the pick because the rest of the top 10 projected guys are DTs.

for now ofcourse.....things change post combine.
