It goes like this:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Sorry, when I said $2.4 billion per state in that hour long interview, I realized I misspoke, the number was off by about $100 million. I'd like to correct the record, but the overall point still stands."

NBC/ABC/CBS: "With factual errors like these, can democratic socialists like Ms. Ocasio-Cortez be trusted with the important business of government?"

Republican guys: "HUURRRRRR NO WAY."

Trump: "The Iranian government has smuggled terrorists over the Mexican border that have killed millions of Americans. They probably coming to KILL YOU right now. WE NEED A WALL PELOSI."

NBC/ABC/CBS: "While we have no evidence to back up the President's claim... it's important to consider... both sides of this important debate."

Republican guys: "HURRRRR GO GET EM TRUMP! BOMB THE WALL OR SOEMTHUNG."

Sanders / Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be the socialist party representatives in 2020

I have not seen NBC, ABC, or CBS being that hard on her. The Washington Post gave her 4 Pinocchios for a tweet about $21 T where it looks like she read a headline and ran with the number without any critical thinking. Anderson Cooper gave her a softball question allowing her to respond to the 4 Pinocchios. That story has been rewritten by others, but I haven't seen anything as mainstream as NBC/ABC/CBS opining that she can't be trusted with important business.

there are many clever memes that illustrate the phrase "you missed the point," but I'm having trouble posting them from my phone, so you'll have to wait til I get home from work later.

gotta be 35 to be president. she'll only be 31 in 2020.

except for that, I like that ticket.

I knew you would!

I didn't realize she was that young. They may never get on the same ticket. Sanders will be 84 or dead when she is old enough.

I get the point. You still get 2 Pinocchios for the way you presented it.

She looked fabulous.

Maybe one day she’ll wake up and realize that we’re already socialist anyway.

she's a 29 year old moron who wasted money on a degree from BU to become a bartender and now whines about how successful people live better than she does. But I'm not surprised MC would hand the keys to the economy to her and a 70 year old who also never had a real career until he became a government schlub in his 40s.

Socialism is when the government owns or controls industry to a significant degree. We live in an age of regulatory capture. What's the word for the opposite of socialism? The web suggests "corporatocracy". Have we ever been more of a corporatocracy than we are today?

These days, some people can't even tell the difference between government regulated speech and corporate regulated speech.

When I get home I?m going to post a clever meme that illustrates ?you missed the point.?

If we're a corporatocracy, how much of a difference is there between gov't and corp regulated speech, or anything else regulated for that matter?

It was interesting to me that in the piece, when her primary victory was talked about, not once was the name Joe Crowley specifically mentioned.

Maybe the embarrassment of his loss was such a blow to Nancy Pelosi that she has the lame Stream media under direct orders never to mention his name.

That difference is roughly as big as we are far from being an absolute corporatocracy in media and communications industries.

so what makes up the corporatocracy then? is it just defense contractors, the Koch's and big oil and big tobacco? Or is it that we're only a partial and not an absolute corporatocracy?

the media is too tough on AOC and too soft on Trump gets 2 Pinocchios? Is that understatement?

No.

Attributing the hot takes of more right wing sources to ABC, NBC, and CBS gets 2 Pinocchios.

This is a solid example of how somewhere between what I write and what you read, there's a lack of communication.

Asking if we're closer than we've ever been to a corporatocracy (implying that we might be at our closest) is not the same thing as saying that we are one. i'm saying that people are complaining about socialism at a time when corporations are very powerful with significant influence over the government. To me, that suggests that it's not really a socialism/capitalism issue.

to me, it's a solid example of how I ask a sarcastic, rhetorical question and you take it seriously. That said, given your explanation, I still consider 2 pinocchios to be a soft grading scale.

On your other point I agree that it's not a question of socialism vs capitalism because we're not even close to a truly capitalist society - particularly when it comes to things the debates tend to be centered around, like healthcare. There, it's a double edged sword of regulation and crony corporatism.
