The 134th Edition of Michigan Wolverines Football kicks off at 3:30pm EST at home against the Central Michigan Chippewas in the classic, old school fashion of opening against a MAC opponent. Of Michigan’s all-time leading record Nine-Hundred and Three wins, three have come against CMU and early Las Vegas lines show Michigan a whopping -31.5 point favorite at home.
Central returns fourteen starters – seven on offense and seven on the defense – but finished a very Rich Rod’esque 105th in the nation defensively in 2012. Coming off a (6-6) mark and Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl win over the mighty Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, many predict CMU to repeat that sort of performance they had last year, again this season.
The strength of the Chips’ offense may lie with a rather experienced group of wide receivers, but the weakness for Central is on the O Line and for the first time in years; Michigan has depth and more depth on the D Line. RB Zurlon Tipton had a solid season last year, rushing for almost 1500yds, but will be running behind that inexperienced line ….. The combination of a consistent pass rush and improved coverage in the secondary might be a precursor for things to come from the Michigan Defense.
Central seems to provide that prototypical opponent for Michigan to work out the first game jitters and kinks against, and to overwhelm sometime in the 3rd Quarter. It’s hard to believe the season is finally here …just a few more days!!
So post your Final Score predictions and provide some supporting analysis if you wish, but please leave the Whoofing and Barking for other threads.
...It's GREAT to be A Michigan Wolverine!!!
Go Blue!!
