Games in Evanston are always a bit tough but the better team won last Saturday and is coming home for Maryland.
The Terps bring a (3-1) record into Ann Arbor along with college football’s ugliest helmet. And while the program is in the middle of a controversy surrounding the death of Jordan McNair, the team has played rather well and like MICHIGAN, boasts a relatively stout Defense - especially against the run. At times this season the MICHIGAN offense has gotten off to a slow start and – in a Schembechler way – has insisted on establishing the run first. Perhaps this week’s game will come down to how Patterson’s arm moves the ball down the field moreso than it will be based on Higdon or Mason.
The aggregated line according to VegasInsiders.com has the Wolverines as relatively heavy favorites with a line of MICHIGAN -17.5 and an Over/Under that opened at 52.5 but has come back to 48. The Maryland passing game is weak, so the game could come down to which Defense imposes its will and while the Terps defense is decent, it’s not #1 in the nation or nearly as special as MICHIGAN’s.
Whether there is legitimacy to the Harbaugh bias when it comes to penalties or the team lacks discipline (looking at you Metellus), the Wolverines need to clean that up in order to have success in places like Lansing and Columbus. With a three game winning streak versus the BigTen newcomer, most are expecting to see a fourth straight at home in Ann Arbor, but you never really know..
So post your predictions with some supportive analysis if you wish but leave the woofing and barking for other threads and MichChamp, you’re off the hook for this week due to a cancelled meeting this morning here in La Jolla!
