Congratulations to dtroitlionsfan951 for besting the rest of the board and the 950 Lions fans that precede his username, for his prediction in the Official Michigan vs. Central Michigan thread … Well done!!
So “rivalry” or no “rivalry,” there isn’t a realistic Noter Dame fan on the planet that doesn’t want to beat MICHIGAN. Problem for them is that beating Michigan is becoming a rather difficult task in recent years so I suppose if you can’t beat ‘em …….take your ball and go to the ACC and play the likes of Wake Forest and Duke every week.
“Tradition,” indeed …..
Historically – (and what irks the Noter Dame fanbase so much is they feel their program is entitled to “history” and re-writing it as often as they see fit, but can’t pull that crap against Michigan) – Michigan is 23-16-1 all-time against the Irish and enjoys a more recent 5-2 advantage in head to head meetings and a 9-6 record spanning the past fifteen match ups.
Riding Irish-like Luck, a fake dead girlfriend and an actually passed away grandmother as motivation, Noter Dame once again ascended to national prominence last season before being subjected to an expected ass-whipping at the hands of the mighty, mighty Crimson Tide. Coming into this weekend, the Fighting Irish are ranked #14 in the nation but are slight underdogs to the home favorite Wolverines, with Vegas giving ND +3.5 across the boards …with an Over/Under of 51. In Vegas terms, the odds-makers are basically saying this one will come down to a field goal and given the recent history in the non-rivalry, it just might (again).
Classic game week shenanigans abound as Coach Kelly first insults the Michigan “rivalry” only to laud it in the press a few days later and a typical Hokespeak response of, “Well …...I said it. I called them chickens.”
Feels like the type of game that could be a complete blowout ….which says it will likely be close. So post your game predictions along with some supportive analysis, but leave the whoofing and barking for other threads.
