The Official Ohio* vs ][V][ichigan (End of Hoke Era) Game Thread

Ryan's got to remember that the clock was his friend. He needed to let Barrett make the initial commit.

Ryan and Gedeon have to have a better idea of the 3 man zone across AND the clock.

You can't commit to the runner, you have to let the runner make the commitment.

You overpursue like that, and you're toast. It's tough for a LB to sit back, but that's what they had to do. If they sit back, they both let Barrett come to them and they make a gang tackle.

Well, if you offered me the deal at 9am that the game would be tied at 14 going into the half and OSU gets the 2nd half kickoff, I'd have taken the deal.

How do you rush 3 and let the QB run it in from 20 yards out?!

This is EXACTLY what I was fearing. OSU scores, then gets the ball to start the 2nd half, and UM trails 21-14 without having a meaningful snap.

Exactly

Lousy clock management

Even if it included having all the momentum and losing it like that?

Not much for which I can blame Hoke and Nuss.

3rd and forever, I liked the running play to either run clock or force OSU to use their 2nd timeout.

I blame this more on the defense. They didn't blitz! They sat back, rushed 3, and let a freshman on the ropes not get touched. Mattison showing again his age. He ran that like an NFL 2 minute drill, where QBs aren't as mobile, the clock doesn't start after a 1st down, etc.

Should have rushed 4 (minimum) with a zone behind it so guys can see if QB takes off.

Absolutely.

You really hoped for better than tied at halftime, even with lost momentum like that?!

My family is full of OSU fans including one of the most obnoxious I've ever met. I hoped for an encore of last year from DG with the defense knocking the shit out of Barrett early and often. That hold on Darboh changed this game.

People are mad about the linebackers. But it's the end of half usually most normal football teams put heavy defensive back packages in those situations due to the knowing of the other team trying to throw the ball and the needed speed. Why were we in a base 4-3 in that situation to where our linebackers have to play in that much space?

I agree with you on the hold. Totally changed the momentum of the game.

I am sick of all the O$U trash talk and would love nothing more than them losing so I can tell them all, in a classy way, to kiss my University of Michigan loving lily white ass.
