The USPS is good and necessary

I get DVDs from Netflix via the USPS.

I was going to say that I haven?t mailed anything in a while, but of course that?s not true, I send my DVDs back to Netflix via the USPS. I do it through using the stamped self-addressed envelope they provide.

That just gave me an idea - I can send more than one DVD back in an envelope, and then sell the ones I don?t use on the Internet. People can just change the address from the Netflix address to any address they want, and Netflix will pick up the freight.

I just came up with that idea because I was thinking that I don?t even know if I have a stamp somewhere and then I thought ?wait a minute - I could use that Netflix envelope! Just change the address!?

I just remembered this thread, because I used the USPS to ship my Xmas cards and some gifts.

All of those arrived on time, or early.

I had one gift shipped via UPS (not by choice)... was supposed to be there last week, and still hasn't been delivered. And I just got a notice that it was delayed again due to severe whether. But it's at a local hub and the weather at both the hub and the delivery destination an hour away is AND HAS BEEN 80F and sunny all week.

Yay for private sector efficiency. Great fucking job, guys. Maybe the weather's just too nice for the UPS guys to work?

They probably meant workers are "under the weather", likely due to Covid symptoms.

Hey, where are all the dopes who said the only reason the USPS is bankrupt is because they're the only organization required to fully fund their future healthcare expenses? As if fully funding a financial obligation is the problem - that's rich. Well, turns out not fully funding your obligations also leads to bankruptcy. Huh, whuda thunk that could happen? Seriously, it's a total mystery. Maybe requiring the USPS to fully fund their obligations is actually a good idea.

Thankfully, Biden and the Dems are here to transfer that risk from the unions to the American taxpayer, at least temporarily as the problem is much, much larger than the paltry $97B the government is forking over - with no strings attached and no accountability for the mismanagement that got these union pensions in this position and no consequences on future mismanagement for plans that receive the bailout. If the government forced the unions to reform their pension systems, the unions have less money for political contributions, corruption and graft. That brings up a question - is it possible that these no strings attached pension bailouts are a big thank you from the administration for the millions in political donations and an assurance that the donations keep coming? Probably not, please tell us again how it's OK that unions spend so much money supporting politicians (rather than funding their liabilities to members) because they're advocating for workers. Doesn't seem like they're doing much advocating unless you think begging for a bailout because you stole all their money is advocating for them.

The USPS is garbage and it's run by incompetent boobs. I sent a letter priority mail from New Jersey to Palm Beach, Florida on 10/31 for roughly $11. It was supposed to arrive 11/4 at the latest. It's still not there today (11/12) and the USPS tracking software hasn't given an update on it since 11/1 when it supposedly left the processing center in Kearney, NJ.

It would be at least a week late if I sent it first class mail but I paid up to make sure it got there on time and it's almost 2 weeks past due with no explanation for why it's late, where it is or if it will be delivered at all. Pure garbage.

Best reason for this is that shit happens. Sometimes my package from Amazon arrives a day late or UPS/FedEx. Shit happens.

I think the best and most likely reason is incompetence.

I placed an order Friday night after 6pm on Amazon for something my wife needed by 4:30pm Saturday and it got there with a couple hours to spare - and we got regular updates on it's whereabouts. And we weren't charged a dime for shipping.

We spend upwards of $1k a month buying stuff on Amazon and I can only remember an issue 1 time - and Amazon warned me in advance and kept me updated on the progress. So even when "shit happens" they're on top of it.

This USPS package is 8 days late and I haven't gotten an update in 11 days. There isn't a clown in the entire USPS brigade that could tell me what's going on with my letter. They told me to send an email to which I could expect a reply in 5 days - 5 days for an update on a letter that's already been in their hands for two weeks. But shit happens.

The difference between public sector and private sector.

Did y’all hear about the veteran who applies for a job at the post office? The manager told him he starts tomorrow at 9am then remembers to ask if the applicant has any disabilities that would affect his ability to work. The guy says “I got my testicles blown off in the war.” The manager replies, “ In that case, you can come in at 9:30 because we just sit around and scratch our balls for the first half hour.”

no, but the USPS is notorious for this problem. "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds, unless shit happens"
You might be right I don't know. Never really had any difficulties myself with them before.

USPS has been a huge success. Dopes never ask WHY things get worse... certainly couldn't have anything to do with a concerted attack on our postal service as "government waste" in the 1990's. Or the current USPS guy being a Trump appointee/hatchet man (Biden retained him, I know), who slowed the mail as part of his plan to ruin the service.

The "we have no money" thing is such bullshit. Where did it go? 1950's - 1990's the postal service had plenty of money and then pro-corporate interests started fucking it up.

Let's replace it with a for-profit company... that'll work out great. Yes, I was born yesterday, my name is Spartanmack I am very smart.

Some people aren't going to be happy until we return to medieval times.

Everything privatized and affordable to the few, the peasants left to fend for themselves...

only a communist idiot would describe an entity that loses billions of dollars a year "a huge success."

"It's the for profit corporations that have been attacking the USPS that are at fault and anyway, I can send a letter really cheap which is all the proof I need." Where have we heard that on before? You're like Bart Simpson play roshambo with this line. There really is no limit to the depths of your stupidity.

Medieval times were bad because of capitalism? Everything was privatized by those greedy medieval capitalists?

And privatization causes prices to skyrocket to the point where only the few can afford them? I wonder why literally every instance of hyperinflation has happened in socialist and communist countries...

You're really good at history and economics.

Moron.
