Tigers interested in Saunders

A lefty who throws 200 innings with a sub-4 ERA as our #5 starter... sign me up.

Last 3 years

.279 OPP BAVG 1.40 WHIP 2.9 BB/G 4.8 K/G

While I believe he is certainly a #5 starter, I do not think he would be all that much better than Penny.

I am with Rebbiv on this one...the difference is he's a lefty.

Sorry, it was a Saturday Night Live skit. I thought you might have gotten it :)

Saunders pitched well in a launching pad in the middle of the desert. I would rather sign Saunders, as a free agent as to trade for Gio

i wouldnt be excited if we got him, but i wouldnt be upset either. he'd be a decent 5th starter, definitely better than penny.

Even when Saunders was winning games he could not keep hitters off the bases.

I have a feeling something happens today, whether we acquire someone or sign someone.

Saunders=Nate Robertson

wish I were a lefty, I would still be pitching

No kidding. I've already told my wife when we have kids I'm gonna start them young as lefty pitchers and/or left tackles. LOL!

I hear Saunders will get some 2-yr offers, I think we only want a 1-yr pitcher

I read on the MLB rumor site yesterday that before AZ cut him lose they offered him a 2 year/ $12M contract. He countered with a 3 yr/ $27M contract. It was then that AZ cut him lose. It has since been reported that he is looking for 2 yr/$16M. You can probably understand why no one has signed this guy yet.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that there is "belief among some executives" that Joe Saunders could end up getting a three-year contract this offseason.
Saunders was slated to make around $8-9 million in his final year of arbitration before the Diamondbacks non-tendered him, but he'll have no trouble landing on his feet. The 30-year-old held a 3.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 33 starts in 2011 and has drawn interest from the Marlins, Red Sox, Reds and Tigers.
