Gameday from mlb.com

Rick Porcello back on mound after impressive outing against White Sox.
Rick Porcello has not lost since June 20. Carlos Villanueva has not lost since last season.
Those two pitchers will oppose each other Friday night in the opener of a three-game series between the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Porcello is 3-0 in his past five starts and is coming off an excellent outing in which he pitched into the ninth inning for the first time in his career.
Porcello allowed five hits and did not issue a walk in eight-plus innings Saturday in a 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Porcello (7-5, 4.40 ERA) is 2-2 with a 3.75 ERA in four career starts against the Blue Jays.
Villanueva is 5-0 with a 2.86 ERA in 26 appearances this season. The start against the Tigers will be the fifth of the season for Villanueva, who last suffered a loss Sept. 17 against the New York Yankees.
Villanueva is 0-0 with a 2.60 ERA in four appearances, including one start, in his career against the Tigers. Current Tigers hitters are hitting .368 (7-for-19) against Villanueva in limited at-bats against him.
Delmon Young and Miguel Cabrera are the only Tigers with more than two at-bats against Villanueva. Young is 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Cabrera is 0-for-3.
from Mlive

The Tigers are hoping to put Thursday's 5-3 loss (and series loss) to the Indians right behind them as they face the Blue Jays in Toronto.
Carlos Villanueva (5-0, 2.86 ERA) gets the start for the Blue Jays and has given up just three runs (all July 21 vs. Boston) in the past 18.1 innings of work, which included three victories.
He posted a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings against the Tigers from 2009-11 (he pitched for the Brewers from 2006-10).
The Tigers counter with Rick Porcello (7-5, 4.40), who's coming off a brilliant 8-inning, one-run win against the White Sox that put the Tigers in the AL Central lead (at the time).
Porcello is 2-2 with a 3.75 ERA in 24 career innings against the Blue Jays.

Leyland not likely to rest anybody because of Toronto turf.
The Tigers' season turns 90 games old Friday night. It'll be marked by Detroit's first trip to Toronto this season.
The Tigers play three games at Rogers Centre, where the field is turf ? a scenario that sometimes has managers giving players a rest. Manager Jim Leyland doesn't expect that to be the case, though.
"We'll kind of watch guys here and there; that depends on who they are," Leyland said before Friday's series opener. "But our guys are pretty young.
"We don't have many old guys."
The guys the turf, theoretically, would affect the most ? it's been known to mess with knees and backs over the years ? are the outfielders, who do the most running because of the ground they cover. But Friday's starters, Quintin Berry, Austin Jackson and Brennan Boesch, are in their mid-20s.
If there is rest for any of them, it probably would be based more on pitching matchups. Saturday's lineup is likely to look much like Friday's, with the Blue Jays throwing two right-handers. Berry is a candidate for a breather Sunday, with left-hander Carlos Villanueva on the mound.
The turf isn't the issue it was when Leyland was starting out as a major league manager in the 1980s, when many National League ballparks used it. Back then, it was like cement; today, it has some give.

"I managed 11 years in a league where we had turf in about seven places," Leyland said, referring to his Pirates tenure (1986-96). "Guys played every day, bounced off it, dove for catches. ? It does affect some people, I don't want to downplay it.
"But I've never really gotten into that too much."
This is the Tigers' first trip to Toronto in more than a year, since last May. That series was highlighted by Detroit ace Justin Verlander's second career no-hitter.
The Rogers Centre roof was expected to be closed Friday night, in anticipation of the heavy rain that bombarded Detroit earlier in the day.
